Roleplay guilds..?

I'm looking for a guild dedicated on Roleplay, as well as RvR and the other things involved to make the DAOC experience as vivid as possible.

I'm not gonna write out my Rpg story here because I don't want to write it and noone wants to read it, but if there are any roleplay guilds on exc mid out there, please reply to this post.

I'd prefer if the guild in question was somewhat established in the realm and had a couple of characters with good experience of the game.

Thanks in advance. :)

That bites.

I hear Pryd has some good things rollin' but that don't help me and possible others wanting to roleplay much does it, maybe it's just too much to ask.

If there are other players around wanting to roleplay for hours and STILL not be the laughing stock of RvR post here please.

Maybe it's time to create a serious guild with an emphasis on roleplay and rvr.

I've been having these weird urges to do this 'roleplay' thing too.

I've even gone so far as to discuss the idea of starting an actual roleplaying guild - with an alt character, of course, as my main is already guilded - with some friends ingame, and they're (gasp!) quite taken with the idea.

Roleplaying in Midgard/Excalibur. Can it be done?

Let me know if there is someone who would like to start this rpg guild.

we could possible use my alt to be able to make the guild.

I ran an rpg guild in UO, so would be very interested in starting one with an alt....I kinda miss it :)

At the moment I'm trying to get a transfer of funds from Pryd/Hib to here, and if I can (anybody out there willing to do it?), money for emblem etc. is no problem.

Send me a /tell in game and we can work something out?

I'd be glad to start a guild up then, if there's enough interest for one.. One thing, however. I don't want to be #1GM, I've done that bit far too many times and it takes attention from me that I ATM cannot spare.

Other issues in RL like me going to a school where I'm not sure whether I'll be able to play or not next semester also plays in, but I can help as much as possible in the initial stages. :)

Anywayz, Luygin, LV 24 SB in game. I'll be on at around 9 pm gmt and onwards for at least 3 hours. Those who are interested then could pop online and we'll have an ooc meeting regarding it.

If you get it going please drop a note here. I was with the Knights Templer on Prywd and really enjoyed it.

I'd be interested in this, would maybe bring some life back into this tired old game.

Have several alts I've done some roleplaying with solo but I usually get an answer that goes sumthin like this: "omfg wtf are u doing, stfu n00b I am teh uber leet haxx0r"

So I gave up, a roleplaying guild seems like a great idea to me :D

If memory serves 'Keepers Of Bifrost' (somthing along those lines) were kind of a roleplay guild.

I heard some of their members giving it the old

'Ye'
'Have At Thee'
'Ale'
'Avast me Hearty!'
'E-Gad! Theres A Pook In My Soup!!'

sort of thing, then again i have heard them speaking normally.. well as normal as can be expected from a midgardain. So i might be wrong, Either way they seem to have vanished too (or maybe i'm just not paying too much attention to the people that pass me in Gna anymore?)

Good luck, i'm sure there must be atleast one Roleplay guild out there

The pronoun of the second person in English grammar used to break down like this:

Nominative singular: THOU
Nominative plural: YE
Objective singular: THEE
Objective plural: YOU

In the Middle Ages, people began to use plural forms in all cases, at first as a sign of respect to superiors, then as a courtesy to equals.

So. Is Midgard in England? Do they speak English? Nope! You don't need to use thees and thous and whatnot, in order to be roleplaying. In fact, since the old Norse spoke a language that's the root of today's Icelandic, if you wanted to be so in-character that you 'speak like them', I'd suggest you get a course in Icelandic. ;)
Otherwise, just use normal English.
Ahem. Thank you. Rant off.

On a more thread-related note -- since there does seem to be some interest in a roleplaying guild in Midgard/Excalibur, I'll be trying to set one up. Nothing's set in stone yet, but feel free to contact me through PMs here or /tells ingame, and we'll see if we can't get this show on the road.

Guild created

We actually went and started one.

The guild is called Drakhar, the norse name for the longships vikings employed so succesfully in their amphibous warfare. It also means 'monster', dragon if you will, in ancient norse tongue.

Recruiting hasn't seriously started yet as we are busy hammering out guild policies and background, we are in need of a dedicated GM who can put good time into making the guild special so pop over to www.drakhar-midguard.tk and say hello in the forums and join in the creation of what I know is very needed on Excalibur.

As previously stated, it's still very thin so have patience with what you see, it was thrown together last night at around 5 AM.

Okay.

As an utter language geek, I just -have- to reply to this one.

<nitpick>

Item the first: There is no instance of the 'kh' letter combination in the Norse language. The word you're looking for is 'Drakar', or 'Dreki' for the singular. And it doesn't mean 'monster', it's specifically 'dragon'. As in the serpentine kind of venom-spitting dragon found in old Nordic mythology. There's no flame-breathing mentioned at all, but I digress.

Item the second: It's Midgard. Not Midguard. From the old Norse 'Miðgarð', meaning literally 'Middle-Earth'.

</nitpick>

Ahem. Sorry about that.

sigh

Ever tried creating a guild?

Some names are illegal, it annoyed me as well but nitpick somewhere else. We couldn't do much about this one.

Drakkar, or however you may spell it, will be wrong anyway unless you carve it into a runestone means dragon, yes.

Monster was used to simplify the fact that a Drakkar(word and spelling used in the Encyclopaedia Brittanica, sue them) does not mean the traditional firebreather, rather a more serpentine version.

Midguard is a typo on the homepage, the homepage can be changed, and the adress isn't really in character anyway is it?

I don't think we want you in the guild though, I have a hard time believing you can pass our roleplaying rule #1. Nothing is more annoying in roleplay than someone being anal about everyone and everything all the time.

No offense, maybe I'm wrong, we'll just have to talk in realtime if you are interested in helping out/leading a roleplay guild.

Gee, that's very nice and friendly of you.

Posting on a public forum that you don't want someone in your guild because they're a language geek and made an informative post about the old Norse language - and it wasn't meant as anything else - isn't likely to encourage people to join your guild, you know.

And, frankly, with the attitude YOU're displaying? I don't think I want to join your guild anyway.

Try to see it from my point of view.

You create a guild and start working hard to make things work.

Post here about a new guild in creation, specify on every level that it was created VERY recently and that things are still flakey even and the first reply you get is completely not about the guild or idea, only insultive as to the language used and how it isn't 100% authentic with forn norse lore. A few nice suggestions would have done. :)

DAOC Midgard is akin to norse lore but not 100% authentic, the key issue to make roleplay there work is to have some leniency with certain aspects, such as the lingual ones.

I'm sorry for insulting you, I'm not a nice person, and I'm very sure that your knowledge could be extremely useful but noone likes a knowitall. The guild will be based on roleplay and RvR mainly, not research and lore discussion.

I don't even know why I'm discussing this.

screw it.

Join in the roleplaying fun and help the team, it's dearly needed or get stuck on details and do something else.

Yeah, but YOU try seeing it from MY point of view.

I'm Nordic. I'm proud of my cultural heritage. I'm also a language geek extraordinaire.

I'm -also- a roleplayer, or I want to be, in a game where the vast majority of players seem to be of the l33t d00d variety.

I see a post asking for roleplay guilds. I get fired up about this. I talk about it with friends ingame. I start thinking of names for this guild, of events to run, of things to do to make it -work-. I post about intending to start one.

And then the same someone who posted looking for guilds says he's 'thrown together' a guild 'at around 5 am'. The name of the guild is misspelled, making my language-geek sensibilities itch, and even the name of the -realm- is misspelled in the URL and on the website.

So my Barrysworld instincts kick in, and I nitpick. I get told I'm not even wanted in the guild, in response.

So.

Not impressed.

Re:

Good luck to you.

To others.

Recruitment notices should start popping up on various boards around the DAOC communities sometime this weekend. Until then we wont be recruiting new members except possible CO GM's. Get in touch with us on our boards(link in earlier post) if you're feeling like helping out or just want to say hello. /tell Luygin Hello also works when I'm in game.

Sorry to jump in here, but Strap I think you are out of line here...Nattrun only came up with some idea's for you. I find it really strange the way you judge, even though she tells you in plain language that she is only giving you some advice on a subject she is really into. Instead of insulting here on a public forum, I think you should have shown some respect and gratitude to what she posted. There are not that many roleplayers on this server…

About “Ever tried creating a guild?” and “I don't think we want you in the guild though”. I have been part of creating the guild FoM, and the way you go about it you will fail. As fare as Nattrun goes she is a member of that guild, and I can tell you that Nattrun is one of our “Jewels”. I know she is into roleplaying, but very few guilds can offer that, not even FoM.

re:

I'm sure she's a fine member of your guild, and already did apologize for insulting her back.

What I meant by the 'ever try to' was that we tried Drakkar(which is a commonly used and accepted spelling) AND Drakar(which is also commonly used and accepted) but both names were taken/illegal.

Thanks for your input, I respect you defending a friend, that's important.

You insulted her even more...

If you wanna have a roleplaying guild without room for people that in some way are dedicated to research and lore discussions...plz do, but it sounds a bit strange to me.

I think we should leave it at that, no point going on. GL with your guild etc...and have fun.

Ok I must jump in here....I apologise for the mispelling of Midgard, I couldn't get the .tk address just plain Drakhar ....and as Tuy said, it was around 4 am in the morning when we were doing it.

Our first choice name for the guild was refused, the people in the group of eight were getting understandably fidgety and wanted to get to bed....so he stuck an "h" in....wow what a crime, we have stated "roleplaying" not "Nordicly correct"...this is an English server, we are English, this is a fictitious land in a fictitious game.

I will be changing the web address, so that your sensibilities and fanaticism aren't offended.

I'm sure Nattrun is a positively amazing roleplayer, if you say so, but a time was mentioned on this thread, a lot of people said they were interested....but where were they last night at 9 pm? Definitely not there to help with suggestions, with the naming, ideas, or anything.

In the end it was left to us to start the guild, get a forum up and going and create a website all in the early hours of the morning.

Nobody is perfect...try and be more charitable, unless of course you would like to get off yer butt and actually DO instead of sit and criticise :)

We wish you luck with your roleplaying guild...one wonders why you decide to start it now, and haven't before....guess people just like to be destructive :)

An apology followed by another insult is hardly a valid apology, Strap.

You said: "I'm sorry for insulting you, I'm not a nice person, and I'm very sure that your knowledge could be extremely useful but noone likes a knowitall."

Which means: "I'm sorry I called you anal, you knowitall. And no-one likes you."

And 'insulting me BACK'? Did I insult you in the first place? Please point out to me where I did that; I must have had an insult-filter installed in my eyes or something.

You know, if you hadn't chosen to completely disregard my 'nitpick' post's kind of tongue-in-cheek tone(and I refuse to have to resort to smileys to let people know I'm being light-hearted) and start flaming, I wouldn't have gotten offended.

But yeah. Good luck to you too - Midgard needs roleplaying guilds in general.
I just won't be joining yours.

Yep.

Our current #1 roleplay rule is to never tell people oocly what they can and can't do icly.

Our current #2 roleplay rule is to not claim things you can't back up with knowledge and code.

Our idea is that roleplaying fun comes before hardcore research knowledge, but that researched knowledge is also desired.

Strange as it might sound I've dealt with guilds before.. for abt 6 years on various RP-muds and later on at AO. Risking to be quoted again against myself I have come to the harsh understanding that there are lots of players. Creating something special will always attract disagreements and general ill will, that's just the way it is.

The good part is that hopefully someone that can see through the squabbling and feel a desire to help anyway will come along, and then it's all worth it. I didn't create this guild to please myself alone, I was asked to create it by a few others who I met in this very thread earlier on and we stayed up all night, hoping to catch more people from this thread before starting the guild. I don't like being GM(guess why) but I'm prepared to work very hard to make this work for those interested.

I've seen how some people work together and others just don't. I don't know that me and Nattrun couldn't have been good friends under different circumstances, but first impressions have a sick tendancy to last, sadly. Here's a little wishlist I compiled after reading through this thread again.

I wish things weren't like this.

I wish people would be more supportive and encouraging instead of patronizing and demeaning.

I wish more than 3 people would read this thread.

I wish someone agreed with me before I paint myself into a corner of defense and lose everyone who'd be an asset to the guild.

I wish I didn't have to write this.

I wish you could all visit our website at www.drakhar-midgard.tk even if midguard is misspelled, I don't have the power to change the layout of the page since I'm not the webmaster.

I wish you all the best.

Hooray for jumping into guild creation without actually planning anything, I guess.

Didn't you read my comments about my own post? It wasn't meant as a rabid attack on Strap's command of the old Norse language. It was meant as a kind of light-hearted commentary. Constructive input. Nothing else.

I will be changing the web address, so that your sensibilities and fanaticism aren't offended.

Okay, now, that's just low. Even for a Barrysworld post.

I'm sure Nattrun is a positively amazing roleplayer, if you say so, but a time was mentioned on this thread, a lot of people said they were interested....but where were they last night at 9 pm? Definitely not there to help with suggestions, with the naming, ideas, or anything.

Ummm... possibly because it was late at night? And because it was the DAY AFTER the idea of a guild had been aired? And because sensible people usually like to think things over before jumping into a task as daunting as that of guild-creation? And, hey, because you hadn't ASKED anyone to be there and help with the actual creation of a guild, not a brainstorming session, as it was originally phrased as?

In the end it was left to us to start the guild, get a forum up and going and create a website all in the early hours of the morning.

No it wasn't. It was YOUR choice to dash up to the guild registrar without any forethought at all and start one. It was YOUR choice not to inform anyone about this. It was YOUR choice to effectively exclude the community in which the idea had been aired in the first place.

Nobody is perfect...try and be more charitable, unless of course you would like to get off yer butt and actually DO instead of sit and criticise :)

Who's doing the ciritising again? Who's doing the personal attacks? Mm-hmm. Yeah.

We wish you luck with your roleplaying guild...one wonders why you decide to start it now, and haven't before....guess people just like to be destructive :)

Wow, you took the words right out of my mouth.

Which is what we did...until 5 am...hardly jumping into it, 8 hours of discussion :)
