Role Playing?

roleplaying doesnt seem to work in daoc

Roleplaying doesn't work in any of the mmorpgs that I know, and DAoC is no exception. This is mainly because the gamemaster(s) have limited means of manipulating the surrounding world - if you can't even control the weather, or twist a single blade of grass, how are you supposed to run a large campaign that sees a dozen of ugly young ducklings with the experience of a raw apple have an epic adventure ending in the slaying of the dragon?
The answer is: with imagination. You roleplay your xp hunts, and share the exploits of your deeds with other roleplayers. Have enough of roleplaying hunts and you have a tale. Have enough tales, and you have a roleplaying campaign.
And that's what I'm back for: to see if I really can gamemaster a long and hard roleplaying campaign in an environment that doesn't yield one inch to my needs or whims. It's a challenge for sure, but hey, so's crossing the street.

Well, the environment in Muire certainly cooperated the last time ... the only named's that repopped after we'd killed them were Sheyna, who's tomb I forgot to salt before we left, and Quinlan at the end, which just means the curse of the kinslayer was stronger than out pack of rabid ducklings and Muire will still spew undead for future generations. ;)

Now just get players comfortable with what to report, when to ask you, and when to make an educated guess, and we'll have a campaign.
