Rofl.....

OK, its an occasionaly useful, though rather overused abreviation, but does anyone remember actually ROFLing?

I can, though it was very many years ago, and I'm afraid that I may never do it again :(

I remember watching the Carry On films and the Ealing comedies for the very first time, usually on a Sunday afternoon, on our B/W telly. It was the mid 70's and I guess I was about 8 or 9, and I used to laugh so much I'd fall off the sofa.

As we grow older I guess we develop inhibitions that stop us acting like that, but I do wish that sometime I really do find something that funny again.

I guess when we were younger we were much more innocent and didnt take much to make us laugh unfortunately now I have to have a couple of bottles of wine before I ROFL at anything.

Do you think your sense of humour gets desensitised(Sp)?

Thats what I heard a psychologist on the radio say the other day...the more jokes etc you hear the less you find them funny...

Thats a very sad thought!

It's probably true - I remember fucking killing myself laughing at a Billy Connolly record of one of his old concerts when I was about 14/15 - full rofl stuff: tears, shortness of breath, rolling on the floor etc.

If I was to listen to it now it wouldn't have the same effect.

Sad really, but I do crack up at other things though :)

Might also be because of all the other things on your mind. I can turn on a movie for a bit of escapism, and 10 mins into it I'll be thinking about the washing up, or having to get up early in the morning.

Makes it harder to get really obsessed by anything when your mind is already filled with memories and responsibilities. I find alcohol, console games and a few friends one of the best recipes for a good laugh though :)

Dope used to make me laugh hysterically for no reason sometimes, long after it had stopped being amusing tbh. Still...

Billy connolly and Jasper Carrott are the only two people left alive that give me the power to look a twat and roll around like a quadroplegic bloke on fire, with laughter. Even some of the older stuff.

Other comedy stuff, now just isnt as funny.

1. because all new comedy is shit.

2. i've watched the old stuff so many times i know the joke better than they do :|

Mushrooms do that to me. Whenever I have them I spend the next few days with jaw ache from laughing so much.

My 21st birthday party was at a nightclub where the special act as Frank Carson, he stood on stage for three hours and told nothing but Irish jokes, my sides ached for days afterwards.

I probably wouldn't find him funny now.

It's not that I don't laugh, Billy Connoly and Eddie Izzard are 2 that can have me in stitches, it's just that I miss that completely helpless, jaw aching laughter that happened so easily when I was young.

Come to think of it it can still happen when I'm tickled;)

That bastard ate my hamster!

On the subject of ROFLing, the only time I can recall being utterly unable to breathe due to laughter has been various occasions with people on IRC, it's utterly mad in a channel I go in.

Monty Python has occasionally set me off, but it's not as funny second time round. Trigger Happy TV was also VERY funny when I watched it for the first time.

One time me and my friend skived off school. My mate had two nans, one he called nice nan and one he called bastard nan. Now he thought it would be a good idea to send every mobile service round to her house (pizza, interflora, rentokill-said she had pigeons in her loft, chinese, Dyno-rod etc). I have never laughed so much in my entire life, I'm laughing now. You may think it was cruel, but we were young and we both felt bad when she rang up his mum and said that someone was trying to kill her :/

I think one of the most recent 'ROFL' moments was reading about some imbecile who dashed to his car believing it was being stolen ;)

I find that the truly rofl moments come when you are not supposed to laugh, assembly, lectures, weddings, funerals, police stations (?) The times I have snot come out of my nose from trying to not laugh on these occasions are fondly remembered. I think when you grow up you kinda feel like there aren't any places where you shouldn't laugh, hence you don't have the same hysteria. (that didn't make much sense, but it does in my head)

lol Kemp, yeah I remember that. We had some mental internal games in SQS too, we'd just keep trying to pull off these amazing shots and just cratering in the process, missing completely :)

In fact, just looking back at IRC now they're all spinning and flailing about ejaculating eyes. Madness :D

hmm if we carry on like this the BBC will write an article on how the internet is causing the youth(?) of today to be humourless androids. If in doubt blame the Internet

The funniest moment I can remeber is at a bill bailey (ummm.. Performance?) when after bill saying how he seems to get all the freaks asking if anyone was from ireland to which one guy shouts out "YES....sort of".

It transpires he was Irish decent but bill's reaction was class!
