Overrated pretty boy Beckham missed another pen, GJ!

Portugal were so much better anyway, they were worthy winners.

'Worthy' has nothing to do with it - Germany have won world cups with less 'worthiness' - we had a perfectly good goal disallowed in the last minute of normal time. What part of 'robbed' do you not understand?

While our fight back was courageous and Lampard's equaliser was a truely wonderful feeling, we have learned an important lesson here:

You cannot defend a 1-0 lead for 85 minutes and expect to win.

... oh no, wait, weren't we supposed to learn that lesson in that last world cup? Or the French match...?

Gutted over Rooney though, I think if he'd not been injured (really unlucky there) then we'd have one by a number of goals.

Arse. Again.

Twaddle - they owned the middle of the park, granted. They were pretty shit up front though and our defenders ruled. We showed determination. At the end of the day we scored 2 perfectly good goals in normal time. Portugal scored one. The ref made a bad decision though. He also gave away twice as many free kicks against us. Did we really look dirty to you ?

Never mind the penalty bullshit; we were robbed.

By the way. Nothing against the Portuguese people. They are possibly the nicest in all Europe. That Swiss ref was a CUN7 though.

Rooney going off was definetley the turning point, it was as if the players thought they couldn't do it without him and so decided to defend for 70 minutes.
I think we need to go and invade Switzerland.

Totally robbed.

However, England are out, so I reckon 'fuck it' and adopt the Scots stance of "lets support any opposing team to Portugal" ;).

The papers will be full of discection of the game / penalties tomorrow, and I dunno if I cba with that :(.

The whole game that referee was biased. Disallowing the goal was the icing on the cake, what a fucking nob. We won that game ffs!!
Something needs to be done, because referees just don't get it right. When you have jelly legged players jumping to the ground at every opportunity and referees being paid by people the game just isn't fun to watch.

I think there were four key things that cost us tonight. In chronological order:

Losing Rooney
Without Rooney we looked a totally different side, it destroyed the flow of the game and losing the beautiful linkup play he has with Owen killed our chances of getting a second goal as the midfield and forwards were miles apart. A huge shame not only for England but for the lad, he must be gutted.

Scholes and Gerrard being substituted
Can't blame Sven for this, it was the logical thing to do as we needed fresh legs and to tighten up the midfield but I felt if we had them on the pitch we could have threatened them more late on in the game. Even in extra time we may have been able to poach a goal before Portugal did.

Campbell's goal
I can't see anything wrong with it, Terry and Campbell both had their eyes on the ball, Terry stood his ground and didn't challenge the keeper for the ball, Ricardo didn't even jump for the ball properly. Absolutely bizzare, if Urs Maier has a decent and honest bone in his body he will look at the goal on television and tell us all he got it wrong, scant consolation and it doesn't matter now but it would be the right thing to do.

The penalty spot
I hope Beckham doesn't get slated for missing that penalty as there was nothing he could have done about it, if you watch it closely you can see that due to the angle he places his standing leg and the pressure applied the penalty spot actually moved and the ball rolled about 2cm to the right meaning Beckham hit the wrong part of the ball sending it high and wide. Because he hit the first shot all the other players were wise to it, I wonder how things would have panned out had Portugal taken the first penalty.

Overall I don't think we can blame any individual error or blame the ref as we were poor tonight. We defended well, Campbell and Cole were superb, but we always had our backs against the wall and Portugal played with flair and we couldn't match them.

I hope Czech Republic or France win myself.

Got to be the Czech Republic all the way now, I bet a few quid on them at the start because I've always thought they have underachieved and they have a damn fine squad - plus beating Germany with your B team is just class :)

Czech Republic are brilliant, but France have Henry and Zidane. And they're both in my fantasy football team.

My favourite bit was the Portuguese goalkeeper taking the final shot. Cheeky, unexpected and nice!

Let's be honest.... due to the shocking behaviour of so-called English fans over there, England were very lucky to have been kept in the tournament this far. Wonder if they'll behave themselves tonight?

Prior to the start of Euro 2004 UEFA threatened to eject England and ban them from European competitions if there was any repeat of violence demonstrated in previous tournaments.

So..... perhaps you'd like to explain why they were still in the tournament after 3 nights of violent disorder by fans in Portrugal, never mind the bother in England? Not football related? My arse!

I can't be fucking bothered with this same old argument, people who know fuck all judging football fans and tarring them all with the same violent thug brush.

Go read this thread.

P.S. All the violence on the Algarve was on nights when England weren't playing and all of England's matches have been in the North West of Portugal.

Keep it fucking civil? How about let's not make sweeping statements about something you clearly have no grasp nor understanding of? Then we'll keep it civil.

I'm not 100% sure I made any sweeping statements.

If anything the "so-called" part of my statement appears to back your argument that most proper fans are decent and just over there for the football and the atmosphere.

So, what you're saying is that the ones in the Algarve weren't English fans? Just 'cause they were in the Algarve and not where the games were being played? Pish!

Let's get it straight.... I'm NOT claiming all English football fans are hooligans. I AM saying a certain amount ARE trouble makers, and arseholes, and enough of them seem to have made it over to cause bother. Therefore, I was reminding you that you were lucky enough to have got to this stage in the tournament.
