Knew it was Thomas Newman, aside from the fact that he did American Beauty too, his stuff is all the same. (Quite good though).

The film was too sentimental for me. And the ending was predictable.

Red Dragon lookgs good.

Which is a rip from the film Manhunter, its sort of like how Heat was a rip of LA Takedown.

I understood LA Takedown was a low budget made for TV movie, (made for NBC), and Heat was the way the Michael Mann always wanted to make it, but he had to wait 10 years for the money.

So, not so much a rip, more of a prototype constrained by funds.

Interestingly enough, Manhunter was also directed by Michael Mann, though he's not involved in this re-make.

um LA TakeDown was piss poor film, that was too much like miami vice, yes the remake Heat classy.

the 1985 Manhunter is prolly the better film of the 3 lecter flicks. wast of time remaking it.

I'd just like to point out that red dragon already is a film :)

Quite a good one, Hannibal Lectur plays a psychanalyst detective person trying to get into teh mind of the serial killer who is getting close to this blind women, the original film was really good tbh, i just hope the remake ( cash in ) is as good.

This is not technically true.

You are correct in saying that manhunter was based on the book red dragon (i.e characters and some of the story) but it was not a film of the book.

Red Dragon on the other hand is a direct film conversion of Thomas Harris' novel Red Dragon.

Heat was a remake of LA Takedown.

Not the same thing.

Not a cash in at all.

I actually prefer some elements of L.A. Takedown to Heat.

Heat has too much emphasis on Hallahans love life which detracts from the story imo!
