A great man, whom many of my screen writing friends still take inspiration from now. He had very twinkly eyes, apparently.

Nightmare on Elm Street scared me shitless when I illegally got in to the cinema when I was about 12 to see it. Scream franchise was god awful though.

He was a legend in his field and will be missed. There won't be many more original people left in Hollywood soon.

I remember watching it on my TV that was strictly only for my Spectrum. I made an aerial out of a coat hanger and could only get BBC1 and ITV with any watchable picture, I was 8 or something, freaked me the fuck out for months.

Just searched, it was made in 1984 so I was indeed 12. What a dodgy cinema to let me and my (tiny blonde haired mate) get in to see an 18 film. The bit that scared me the most was when Freddy was chasing them along the alleyway with big long arms scraping his claws against the walls. I can still see that now, we had to walk home after that....through alleys as well. Where the fuck were my parents as well!?! It was at night, I can remember the whole thing, I can remember the girl smiling as she let us go in.

That film and the quija board we did totally fucked up my sleeping habits for years

Our local cinema was always easy to get into as well, it had 2 entrances so one person paid to get in then went round and opened the side door and let everyone else in :)

Still remember watching Nightmare on Elm Street when it first came out, similar age to you @Trem , scared shitless :)

I always thought The People Under the Stairs was a good film as well, very underrated. He was a good director :(
