I grew up with shows like 'Are you being served', and Wendy Richard was a highlight of that for me... :(

RIP

Someone mentioned this last night. I knew she had cancer but not that she had died. While not shocked, I had a moment of "Wah".

Although I despise East Enders and all soaps but she's been a stalwart of British TV for a very long time and will be missed.

And as said above, Miss Brahm.

Rest in peace.

And before you all flame my last comment, why exactly?

Are you being served was shit, eastenders is shit, she's a human like the rest of us, just because she's on the tellie does she deserve us all to say awww rip, i didnt see any forum threads wishing rip for my mum when she died.

What is the point in these threads, does it make you feel better?, they've done no good in the world, they've not cured diseases or helped anybody, they've basically had an easy fruitful life for the duration as opposed to the real working class so why the sympaphy?

I really can't understand this celebratey fasination

It's like when a footballer scores a goal, he's the best thing since sliced bread, hang on a sec, he gets 100k+ a week to do this, it's his fucking job, well done for doing it, it's just hilarious how people seem to deem celebs as fucking gods.

Well, thanks for that - I'd probably rather that if you didn't have an opinion or didn't wish to say RIP yourself, that you merely refrained from posting at all.

*you* thought that Are You Being Served was shit. A lot of people rather liked it. And I'd say it was better than any comedy on the TV at the moment that isn't a rerun, but again that's my opinion.

As for celebrity worship, I'm not naive enough to think all actors are just there to entertain us, yet I know they're not there merely to get their paycheck at the end of the month. Some people have a natural talent, some people are naturally funny, and some of these people get themselves on TV to use their talent to entertain the public. Some are good at it, some are not. And to the majority of sane people, when a well remembered and highly thought of actress passes away we're losing a little bit of history, our childhoods.

I didn't expect half the forums to flood into this thread to say "awww RIP" - I was merely sharing a bit of news, I personally was saddened to hear it and thought some others will be too. If you don't like it, don't post, no reason to be insensitive or just generally arsey about it.

While I actually agree with Bob that I didnt like any program I've ever seen her in, I also agree that this isnt the place to say it.

Oops, I suppose now I did :( But you get my meaning. Anyway, thats 3 posts in one day from me, possibly 4, so you'll have to wait for a month or so until I get the interest to post again :)

Well the difference is what you said : you didn't like it, rather than "xyz is shit"

Still, it's part of growing up, we all have to lose people in our family, people we know very well and people we know of via media. Makes you start thinking about people we're likely to lose during our lifetimes - David Jason, Billy Connolly (although for some reason I suspect that bloke might actually be immortal as the silly sod never actually slows down with his age) and many others of huge talent.

Pauline Fowler got right on my tits and I'm too young to really have watched Are You Being Served but I still recognise that she contributed massively to English telly over a very long and respected career.. so RIP.

And I only found out Michael Crichton had died (in November) a few weeks ago.. :(

True i thought it was shit and yes thats my opinion, you like it others don't, but let's not let that opinion cloud the intention of my post. Even if she was great, she's died, point being?, We all do our jobs in this world (those of us fortunate in the current climate) but if our plumber dies we don't cause a major fuss saying how good is pipework was. Just because they are on the magic box doesn't make them any more important than you or I.

Just my 2 cents ;)

Yes yes yes, very good - you don't give a shit.

It's not a celebrity thing necessarily, when someone you've been exposed to quite a bit they get stuck in your mind as someone you know. If you've fond memories, as some people do thanks to enjoying her work, they'll feel sad that she passed. There's nothing wrong with it. It's not like it's a massive effort to make a post on a message board.

If I had a regular plumber and he died, my attitude would certainly not be "meh, who gives a fuck". Of course I wouldn't post about it here as you guys wouldn't know him from Adam. That's not the case here, lots of people know her, evidently liked her work, and felt like mentioning something about it.

I'm interested in understanding why you felt compelled to post? If you didn't give a fuck, why not just steer clear of the thread? I can't help but feel it's simply because it's someone whose career you didn't care for. If it was a favourite writer/actor/musician/pornstar/whatever of yours - I expect you'd not have the same attitude.

Are you being served was shit, eastenders is shit.

All made up for by playing Miss Willing in the Carry On Doctors movie. Quality 70's British comedy.

You really are a Grumpy sod. Sorry about your Mum but, that doesn't excuse your poor attempt at mocking the deceased. :twak:!

Love the Carry On films, mostly for the absolute purile toilet humour that everyone is "too good" for these days. And of course very, very British.

Let's clear up it wasn't really a direct attack at Kryten, but theres been no end of celeb deaths lately and maybe the fucking piss take that is Jade and her wanker new husband that seems to be able to bend the law to suit that pushed me over the edge (and i have a friend who's wife is dying and agrees what a fucking whore she is being) , i'm just sick of average joe getting forgotten whilst the pointless celebs are super gods :)

Quality, so you're one of the 1% of the population that would'nt laugh at any current affairs jokes. You're bang on, i'm moody, but hey i'll still laugh at what is funny ;), i've never been to tea with said dead celeb so this makes me a non associate, so yeah whatever, let's not throw the morale stick unless you are 100% pure, which i doubt any on here is :)

I don't think its really fair to compare Wendy Richard to Jade Goodie. Wendy Richard was a working actress for several decades in several very popular TV series, even if various posters here don't like her work.

And though Jade Goodie could be accused of attention whoring her way to minor fame and fortune, she seems to have turned her attention to raising cancer awareness since she was diagnosed. Regardless of her past behaviour, in her final months she is acting in a more socially aware way.

Unlike some of the posters on this thread.

Lmao, then you are one of the gullable fucktards out there, Jade Goodie is media whoring to give her kids millions, she doesn't give a fuck about any other cancer victims. Why are people so fucking short sighted, [sarcasm]oooh Jade's got cancer i'm glad she told me all about it cause i didn't know it existed[/sarcasm]

And i didn't actually compare Wendy to Jade, thus reinforcing your fucktardesness.

So Roo writes a very civil post, disagreeing with your point of you and you come over all abusive? Methinks he's not the fucktard in this situation.

Thirded, absolutely no need for it. I'll be the first to admit I've had a good giggle at many a Jade Goody joke going round but at the very least she's raising awareness.

Despite that there is also no need for having a dig at anyone or just coming across all abusive-like for merely having a different opinion. We all know too well that you don't particularly like these RIP threads. So stay the feck out of them. Simple as. Let us sad, aging gits mourn in peace.
