Eddie Guerrero passes away
Nov. 13, 2005

WWE is deeply saddened by the news that Eddie Guerrero has passed away. He was found dead Sunday morning in his hotel room in Minneapolis. Eddie is survived by his wife Vickie and daughters Shaul, 14, Sherilyn, 9, and Kaylie Marie, 3.

The cause of death is unknown at this time. An autopsy will be performed in Minneapolis on Monday, and Eddie's body will then be flown to Phoenix. Funeral arrangements are set for Wednesday in Scottsdale, Arizona.

I'm sure there are some here that do follow the WWE.. Tis a sad day. He was only 38....

The funeral should include a 5 man frogsplash salute.

If you can ignore the pun I have to say that I've been wrestling with a decision on whether to post this or not.

I'm not having a go at you or trying to break a thread that has obviously been started with really good intentions but I simply have to say this:

You're mourning the death of a 5-foot-8, 220-pound drug-fuelled alcoholic with an addiction to painkillers who participated in a "sport" that fools millions of American kids (and adults) into parting with their (or daddy's) hard-earned by convincing a large proportion of them what they see is *real* :eek7:

Yes, he's supposedly reformed in the past 3 years but he's had several high-profile f*ck ups and would you really be surprised if you found out that he died from drug or alcohol-related problems (or simply from a heart attack due to steroid abuse)? I know that could be hugely presumptive and will slap my own face, hard, if it turns out otherwise, but chances are, eh?

I'm also not really anti-WWE. I think that anyone can see from the above that there's a lot of positive things associated with the sport (like the fleecing of Yank chavs, which I'm happy to say brings a little smile to my face every time I turn on Sky One expecting a Buffy or Star Trek marathon but end up seeing huge muscle-bound guys not actually hitting each other).

It may be bad form to post this and if it is, I'm really sorry. But I just can't bring myself to mourn the death of this fine and upstanding childs role-model.

AS far as I am aware Eddie was sober/clean for four years, the anniversary of which being the day before he died. I thought he was a fantastic performer and his parting will be a great loss to the world of wrestling.

He's been clean for a long time Scouse. And he was a great athlete and entertainer. Too think someone who looked so healthy and had such an active job can just drop dead is worrying.

Only 38 and still at his peak in his professional life :/

i cant beleive my eyes.. how can anyone spit in the legacy of a great entertainer in that way or the dead as it were.. shows bad form to speak in such a way, never the less finese is required and u squire lack it.. yes its fake, big bloody deal everything is fake these days; this is the closest thing one will ever get to the thrill of a coliseum in days of by gone eras

i am sadned by the news but he had a good run.. we all gotta go one day.. they live a hectic and fast paced life and rarely get to see there family im guessing.. i just hope the rest of the wrestlers will be able to make the buisness as great as it was in the days of stone cold and the rock.. wwe has been going down in my eyes for some time, sad to see another legend hitting the dust

I'm not mourning the above... I'm mourning an ENTERTAINER. I know its not real. Obviously your opinions count, and im guessing from that you don't watch the pay-per-views where sometimes they do actually draw blood from one another.

Its all part of the entertainment tho - hence the name WORD WRESTLING ENTERTAINMENT.

Same with Saturday Wrestling years ago in the good ole UK, that was entertaining and not real, yet punters still paid to see the likes of cat stevens, big daddy, giant haystacks just nudg eeach other round a ring. A lot of people were gutted when Shirley (Crabtree) died.. The majority of the people who go to these events aren't just kids, but women, and men, who pay to see this as they would pay to see a band perform.

To summarise, its all about performance and the entertainment factor, and i don't believe the majority think it's real.

Even if he did die from all the years of abuse, of which he has no one to blame but himself - it was the entertainment factor that made us watch, and for the big gap he will leave in the genre, i am deeply upset.

God, I remember seeing Big Daddy fight Giant Haystacks at the Plymouth Guild Hall. That was great fun :)

I've been reading his wife's biography of Owen's life - its a bloody good read - talks about the industry, the family, including all the harts and how their kids are coping etc.. touches a few strings i can tell ya.

I'm sorry but that is the most ignorant view on a form of entertainment i have ever had the punishment to read.

I'm not even going to go into it, because it would be pointless.

Eddie Guerrero was an amazing entertainer, a terrific athlete, (who didn't take steroids fyi)

My thoughts go out to his nephew Chavo, and all of Eddies family, and the world of sports entertainment has lost 1 of its most talented people, who will never be able to be replaced.

Chaps. I was aware that if I posted that post I may well upset a few people and I really wasn't going to post anything else but I do feel that I have to defend myself.

I sent this to Conchabar (the first one of you guys to vent a bit) privately but after reading your posts I figured I may as well be hung for a sheep as a lamb and will post it here aswell.

I posted this before we found out the cause of death btw.

Hiya

Sorry if I offended you with my post. I realised before I posted it that that was probably going to happen to some but the sort of situation is something I feel strongly about - so I thought I'd try to explain to you (for what it's worth!).

Remember River Phoenix or Curt Cobain? Drugs and suicide, and mostly the press mourned them (because it's bad form not to). Some felt like me tho:

These two people were role-models for kids (which I happen to think is important) so rather than say "this guy was so great, it's sooo sad", I'd rather the papers said: "hey kids - these guys were such wankers that they ended up killing themselves - do you really want to look up to them?"

In the case of this chap - years of alcoholism, drug abuse, addiction to painkillers, steroid abuse. (My money's on the steroid damage as the killer - look at Arnie and his triple-bypass).

Yes, since 2002 he'd reportedly been clean - but there's been some high-profile "slip-ups".

Now, how much do you get up to without people finding out? I bet maybe one time in 50 you'd get caught taking drugs - even by people in your own house. (Unfortunately, I've had experience of this (not the hard drugs - the someone covering-up a habit)). So chances are he wasn't as "clean" as he was saying.

However, even if we give him the benefit of the doubt, and I agree that anyone's death is sad and for close friends and family devestating, I don't think that he deserves the the column inches.

There's far more deserving people out there who die without any mention. The fact that he gets his wasteful, selfish life celebrated (and if you are a drug addict you are wasteful and selfish) diminishes the memory of those who were better than him.

I'd have posted this for everyone to see, but as I was struggling to put the first post in I thought it'd be better to explain to you personally. (Dunno whether to post this anyway, but prolly not).

Again, I'm sorry I offended you, but I'm not sorry for what I said.

Cheers if you read this.

R

I figure that should be the last from me on this.

Scouse this was a guy with painkiller addiction, not steroids. He had been clean for four years and was a Jesus freak (born again). With repsect, get your facts right before spouting. I dont know the man personally, but neither do you, those that did have said what an inspiration and good (clean living these days) man he was. So don't compare him to people like River Phoenix and kurt cobain.

Christ, only just seen the news of this... very sad indeed. Must admit, being on the crappy cable package I don't get sky sports, but used to watch it before they took the highlight show of smackdown off sky one.
He was a great entertainer, and a great friend to many others if the personal tributes are anything to go by, Rip mate.
