I heard this as someone came into the pub and told us, no-one believed it as it had not been on the news at all.

This is bad bad news :( I know he had been ill for years but it's always a great loss to lose someone who revolutionised comedy.

Get his stand-up show on DVD, it's brilliant and how he should be remembered.

That and Trading Places and the Gene Wilder films.

Just heard this -- am very sad to hear it indeed. Loved him in Superman III and some of the comedies he did in the 80's. /salute

My favourite comedian ever. Poor kid, son of a hooker (I think) who made a real difference to black comedians the world over :(

The fact that he was suffering from MS means I'm glad the suffering is over. But the selfish bastard in me will miss a truely amazing comedian.

bumping this one for my friend martes, who didnt really realise who richard pryor was. without richard pryor we wouldnt have the like of eddie murphy and certainly not chris rock.

the guy started the change of the american attitudes towards black comedy, and took it mainstream to such a point that white americans would go to his concerts too and laugh at their own bloody stupidity.

funny is funny.. and richard pryor was FUNNY. his stand up was truly groundbreaking.
