Yeah unless that US senator bloke gets that bill passed that will make it legal for copyright holders who suspect copyright infringement on a P2P network will be allowed to stop transmission using hacking etc as long as no data is damaged in the mean time... that was the rough wording of it.... is it just me is that EXTREME Nazism (in the non-PC sense of the word)

Well, the 'intrusive' nature of that bill means its against human rights etc. Invasion of privacy or whatever you wish to call it. The only acceptable solution to the p2p problem, and it is a problem, is to severely rateshape the ports/protocols used by p2p.

Once P2P is closed down (eventually something will stop it in it's current form) and CD sales plummet again (I buy more CDs when I can try before I buy, simply) who will the RIAA blame?

I can imagine this speech "We're victorious we've closed down the illegal pirate P2P networks. CDs sales are dead and we're out of a job but we won...."
A little exaggerated maybe... but you can tell the represent the industry - who frankly are just pursuing a policy of selling to children (I think I shall call it child abuse from here on) as they are the only one's still stupid enough to buy their mass produced crap.

We've had boybands/grilbands, and always will. But then there is the same problem in RealMusic(TM) too, "Quick, sign up as many bands beginning with The as you can before the public get wise..."

It's a piss take...

P2P networks are very bad for ISPs. You wonder how NTL have hit their contention ratio in so many areas?

In fact, they are very bad for my LAN, I spend way too much time playing kill the filesharing.

Have a google search for "p2p isp" and you'll see what I mean.

RIAA in common-sense shocker

Ok, thats maybe taking things a little far, I think RIAA would prefer their home-grown copy-protection to anything the government comes up with. But the MPAA won't give up the case, and Disney are an amazingly powerful company when it comes to getting what they want.
