Pinp i think you're missing the point about 'dishonour'

As i saw last night whilst in Desolace a couple of lvl 20 alliance players wandering around (goodness knows what they were doing there but anyway) next i saw a lvl36 tauren shamen in animal form run past me, i carried on questing, 2 minutes later both alliance players were dead, now correct me if im wrong but can something 16 levels lower _actually_ cause _any_ damage ?

(and before anyone comments why i didn't go and help them, its because i didn't see them actually getting ganked, just their corpses)

What don't I get? If the game got the honour/dishonour system it would not work well at all, you should be able to kill anyone in contested zones and you shouldn't wait for greys to atack you before you can atack back, that's just stupid.

And they couldn't have done much I guess, but what were they doing there anyway =[

Killing people who cannot defend themselves cannot be considered an honourable act. If a player decides to get their jollies by repeatedly killing those who cannot defend themselves, then I see no reason why the system shouldn't record the fact that this is what this player does.

Now, if the "dishonourable" player thinks that they are doing it for the "good of the horde/alliance" players, then surely they wouldn't mind the "dishonour" tag. I certainly wouldn't if I felt my actions were justified under the circumstances. For example, if I were to kill two enemy players 20 levels lower than you who were about kill an NPC quest giver on your side. I'd really rather they didn't do that and inconvenience the other players the same faction as I who might want to use that NPC. I'd happily take the dishonour tag under those circumstances.

Of course in an ideal system, you wouldn't get a dishonour tag for that, because it is a valid course of action in the defence of your faction. I think thats why the dishonour system won't be implemented, because such situations exist.

you can kill any1. but the point of dishonour is so that u cant go around mindlessly killing people who stand no chance of fighting back.
myself i have a few rules about who i pvp. if sum1 is exp-ing in a area i will usually leave them to it. if sum1 is much lower lvl than me i leave them to it unless they go for me. if sum1 is higher lvl i run :p j/k
only real time i pvp atm is if sum1 goes for me 1st. mainly those who usually go for me while im exp-ing or questing which they do alot. most of the time i can get away then come bck. but if im fighting a hard mob its annoying having to deal with it and trying to deal with the played whos decided to go for me.
ofc when im a later lvl i will pvp alot more for end game and stuff.

In contested zones I kill everyone whos not grey (including greens) unless in the very extreme circumstance that they have done something to save my life (like seen me in trouble and taken aggro off me). Personally I didnt join a PvP server to see my realm stand and do nothing as the opposition level right in front of them. In my opinion we should do everything we can to limit the ability of the other side to level (including killing quest npcs). YES its annoying to be on the receiving end, but we all have been, so you have no excuse to "opt out of PvP" (of course its just my opinion)

I really fail to see why people join a PvP server and either

1. Whine about getting "ganked" / killed by opposition
2. Whine about their own side attacking the opposition
3. Go all "carebear" and assist the opposition.
4. Just whine.

I'm against grey killing. TO AN EXTENT.

Heres an example of what I percieve people are talking about when they say "grey killing"

A level 40 goes into a level 15-20 contested area to kill all alliance.

Thats not honourable, sure.

BUT - how many times have people been levelling in 15-20 contested areas (like the barrens) - to be terrorised by level 35+'s (usually rogues or paladins for some reason) who wait till they get tagged by a mob and finish them off.

Now- personally I WANT to see some comradeship on realms, I WANT to see a reaction when lowbies post in Thunderbluff that there are characters causing trouble in the Barrens.

But if i went to help (level 40) to kill a level 29ish group that were ganking our lvl 10+'s , then I would be killing greys without being tagged.

Its complicated and theres more to it than "Killing greys"

If allies come into my continent and kill my horde community who are significantly lower level than me - I want to be able to help clean the scum out.

anyone who travels as far as (for example) a Gnome Paladin to the barrens to kill level 15's deserves all they get - they hardly have good intentions now do they?

thats fine meighty.
2things. a) no gnome paladins :p he he think u mean dwarf
and b) dont get mixed up about whos killing who.
many times i have been to the barrens with friends doing quests. mainly warlock quests and we have had the "£*("&£ ganked out of us.
if a few lvl 15s or 20s come at us i can usually get them to bugger off by hitting em a couople of times. but when a fg of 30s turn up and start constantly going for us when we are jsut running thru it gets abit annoying... stupid warlock quests :(
heh. sum guy was just advertising in IF about a barrens raid... he was lvl 32... ah well nvm.

My best time in WoW so far. tho... lvl 40 undead mage riding along in stranglethorn vale spots a piddly lvl 36 priest (me) jumps off his mount.

You are yellow to him (at least green and NOWHERE near a grey) and on a PvP server - so pffft to you my friend.

RE: Casual Gamers.

What really pisses me off with this is that I work full time and hold a life, I communicate with people and enjoy playing video games in my spare time. What i dont enjoy is meeting people with bizarre attitude and communication problems who enjoy making my life difficult when the English tax system ensures that I in fact make your life POSSIBLE by subsidising your full time DOLE / INCOME SUPPORT / INVALIDITY BENEFIT lifestyle of getting your lazy arse out of bed and playing on your computer for 12+ hours a day.

If you are well enough to devote 7+ hours per day on a computer terminal to try and make up for your real life by gaining some self induced importance in a virtual one - then you are well enough TO WORK at a bloody computer for7 hours a day like the rest of us, rather than sponging off me then trying to ruin my spare time.

Well said. Speaking from the same side of the fence as you, 8 hrs a day at work, have partner at home and far from all the time in the world to play, I too take a dim view that "casual gamers" (I.e. people with lives) ruin online games.

We're the ones with the money, but with the least time to play. If a company wants to make a profit though, we're the target market. In europe at least, the average age of the computer gamer is (when I last checked) 25+. Certainly the majority of people I know who play are my age or older. With jobs and RL committments (so we might take the occasional day off work to play :p) as well.

Blizz were wise to pander to the needs of this market.

Ganking lowbies is great fun and its very roleplayish too!! Horde hate Alliance = Horde kill Alliance its simple ;p

Best fun to be had is probably killing people in Booty Bay, they often stand around there thinking they are safe because of the guards and all that but the guards are uber slow and do low damage so you can just gank away in happiness!

I thought the setting of World of Warcraft was that the two factions were dealing with some sort of uneasy truce rather than all out war.

Killing lowbies may be fun, for you, but its still not an honourable act. If a person can't defend themselves, then there is no honour in your victory. But hey, if you're having fun, why should you care if the game were to brand you as not being honourable?

Surely thats roleplayish too?

I play on a pvp server, i expect to be ganked, i won't whine about it, but still, as far as i am concerned it's extremely lame and will never do it myself. At my current level i never attack anyone more than 3 levels below me and i usually let people who are questing alone too.

Fun=challenge, killing people -10 levels doesn't help your image really.

I can understand someone ganking a lowbie to help a fellow horde/alliance player but just finding a lowbie and ganking him on the way is really low.

Tbh though, on Deathwing that i play i haven't really ever been ganked, even if being level 25 my only experience from contested zones is Stonetalon+Hillsbrad+Ashenvale and there's a large number of Horde players always there.

I also agree on their philosophy on the honourable/dishonourable kills, i think if you get some sort of reward for honourable kills most people will go fight others their own level instead of wasting their time ganking lowbies and being in most guild's KOS list.

He will get red anyway, the only difference is that he won't spare you when you are doing that last quest step and he will kill you when the mob is at 10% and you will have to go through it again.

Plus, your reputation will be crap and everyone will gank you on sight, kinda like bd's on camlann.

Killing lowbies is a part of the game, and a very fun part might I add. I mean come on, a PvP server is a PvP server. If you can't take the heat, you know where you can go. Losing honour for killing low levels is a crap idea, another reason why I think "casual gamers" ruin online RPGs.

I tend to leave people exping alone.

I was doing some killing in Hillsbrad, and i was having a fight with a lvl 31 preist, im a rogue. Then a lvl 20 mage joined in killing me, they both killed me.

So next time i saw that mage i attacked him, personally i think that was a fair action on my part.

If he had left me alone, i would have left him alone :D

This is pretty much the point. Dishonourably killing players doesn't really make any difference beyond annoying them. An annoyed player is more likely to add you to their shitlist (and with those various UI mods dealing with shitlists this is easily done) and piss you off in return in future.

Anyhow I'm not too bothered. I don't gank, as it seems pointless, and don't get too worked up by being ganked. (The other day a group of 4 players, all at least 7 levels above me, attacked me just after I'd finished killing a mob. Somehow, I managed to take their druid down before they killed me. I don't really know how, but that was pretty satisfying. I think they must've just been idiots/complacent.)

I usaly just walk past em, and usaly they leave me alone, but last night I had gotten
harassed by horde all night at Stormgarde so I started hitting back, fearing them into mobs while they exped, silencing the healer while they exped etc.

I bet you had a great challenge playing Half Life 2 in god mode as well. :D

The brave horde made a raid on Astranaar, Dragonmaw, last Sunday, the highest level was 47 and the rest in their 30s except one lvl 28. They had lots of fun camping corpses. When the brave group of nightelves all around lvl 18 to 25 that defended the village and area around it, managed to kill the 47 they all ran away and didnt come back. Stroong horde warriors indeed. Were you by any chance in that group? Or do you only do it when you have numerical superiority? ;)

same thing happened yesterday at refuge point, 2 'oh so brave' level 60 + 58 horde decided to twat one of our lvl 35 members then corpse camp him, until a few of our other guild members showed up and twatted em, and we're only mid 30's too, so they called upon there lvl 45-58 mates to give us a good kickin, until they pissed off the gryph master, then they got their arse shown to em, was all good fun but (i've posted about this elsewhere) its oh so f**kin lame when 2 lvl 60's have nothing better to do than gank players 20-30 lvl's below them. I bet one day their mummy will let them use the big toilet

Ohh, and that doesnt happend from the "ohh so honourable alliance", right?!

Last weekend a guild from alliance (not gonna say which one, cuz it will probably only encourage them, hehehe) all lvl40+, and about 30 of them, took and camped a horde outpost (forgot name, the one in Ashenvale. ....tree Post-something). Even tho it was fun to be ganked and finding new hiding places to try just to hurt them a little, the wajning on General chat was even more funnier.

But... Both sides do it... And if ppl have fun doing it, then let 'em. Isnt it what the game is all about? (ohh, and if YOU dont have fun while THEY have, then do something else... no need to get blood pumping and act childish).

In the end: Horde :twak: Alliance

Only low levels I kill are Rogues, Horde Rogues can all DIE as far as i'm concerned. The number of times they killed me In the Wetlands when I was low level, the gits.. I shall have my revenge, in this life or the next!

But thats what the game is about right? Get cheesed off with the enemy now and then work your way to a level where you can get even? Thats what PvP is about anyway...

Hmmm... odd you should say that because as we were questing in Stranglethorn yesterday we were happily waving at Horde and everyone was getting along fine, until we saw a level 40 or so rogue....

Yoni: "Sorry all, but I fucking hate rogues" as she runs towards him and starts casting. "One in, all in" we think and off we charge and slice him into little pieces (Priest, 2 warriors, a hunter and a druid :D).

That kind of determined our policy for the next hour or so, even to the point of attacking and killing a rogue but leaving his Tauren Shaman friend untouched :p

It's true though - rogues seem to be more hated than any other class, and I don't know if it's because the class atracts uber 'I'm so gonna pwns joo' players or what :eek7:

Its because the only time I ever see Rogues, they are ALWAYS griefing lower level players. It seems thats what the class was designed to do, and they always seem to get away with it too. Damn them all!
