I've always found it useful to try to look at words visually and make games with them to help you understand.

For example - I always use to get abrasion and attrition mixed up.

So I considered attrition as rock on rock by the two t's side by side.

I also get dyke and sill mixed up so I remember a dyke as a lesbian on the side corner to remember it is a vertical intrusion.

Stuff like that works wonders for me - it's how I managed to flux my chemistry grade last year.

If you just make notes and try to remember them flat off - you will not get anywhere.

Oh and make sure you use your own handwriting and try to avoid the ocmputer. Studies have shown you memorise your own writing more.

Have you tried visualizing hot women with your notes written on their chests in chocolate sauce waiting for you to lick it off?

I bet that would stick in the mind! :D

Depends on the subject your revising for alot.

For lots of subjects you can have a fair idea about what the actual questions they are going to ask are actually going to be. For essays the trick is not to remember everything about everything since you'll only forget half of it anyway. Pick bits that you can talk around and remember those, and while your doing that other bits you thought you didn't know will probably come to you in the exam, and if they don't you can at least create a decent answer from the bits you have.

For subjects like Maths it's all about doing past exams, since the questions are normally identical but with different numbers.

Doing exams is very much about working out what the points actually get awarded for however then going after the easy ones. Most questions when you get marked out of 10, you can get 6 or 7 easily, then getting the last 3 or 4 points takes alot more effort. Concentrate on getting the easy 6 points for each bit first instead of getting 10 for the first question then nothing for the second.

Also don't over do it. There's only so much you can actually learn in a period of time and trying to learn more than that normally does more harm than good. Your better actually knowing half the stuff well than knowing all the stuff badly since your much less likely to sit in the exam screaming, you fooking know this you idiot at yourself.

The studies done here on study techniques says that you should study hardcore for 50 minutes then take a 10-20 break. During this break leave the room you are study, go for a walk or something so your brain get a big change. Then study for 50 min more etc. :)

I actually bought a book about how to study efficiently. I didn't get passed the first chapter tho. Needless to say I'm a lousy student :(

If i completely misunderstood the thread slap me!
