anyone got tipz?
ive been doing -

past exam papers
condensing a years worth of work to a few pages
spider diagrams

my plan was to do this for the first 2 weeks (condense notes etc). then the next 3 weeks committing it to memory.

i dont remember it being this hard all the other times ive taken exams.

Eat lots of fish. It wont help a truck load but it does seem to make a difference...

As for the actual revision, I'm probably the last person who should advise, I suck at it. :(

I try to do revision in 3 sort of stages. Start by looking over and reading everything you have done so far. Then start from the beginning but this time write all of the important underlying principles / points /quotes on paper, keeping it as compressed as possible. Then do exam papers and practice questions- as many as possible really as it is the best way to identify any gaps in your knowledge. Add any missing points you find to your notes. I also save an exam paper and do it near to the end under timed conditions, just to make sure i know how much time i need to spend on certain questions etc.

when you do practice papers, do you refer to notes to create the answers. or do you go from memory and then when youve got answers, use the notes?

go from memory, mark the paper and then add any gaps/correction to my notes. Then do another paper, and hopefully you will have retained the information/erros you made previously.

I find that it's really a lot better to do exam papers properly and w/o notes. If i have any notes when i answer the questions i remember what i am writing down a lot less, compared to when i think for myself (as you may have to in an exam).

Best way I found to learn something was to read it a few times, then describe it by writing it down in my own words.

I start by writing whole paragraphs on the topics i need to know
Then condence them to short sentences, codense further to single sentances until you get down to key words and bullet points to act as mental triggers

Then just learn the bullet points so you can recall them in the exams, acroyms are helpful to some in this respect

when you do practice papers, do you refer to notes to create the answers. or do you go from memory and then when youve got answers, use the notes?

I create bulleted model answers to compare what i write to

well firsty the most important piece of advice i can offer you is do not under any circumstances substitute an s with a z on your exam papers.

secondly i'd recommend starting a routing well before your revision period of decient sleep patterns and eating well as well as getting plenty of exercizzle. set yourself 2 hour blocks to revise in then take a break, go for a short walk anything just to refresh yourself then youll find stuff sinks in easier.

also, go to yur local library (taa daa) and see if they have books on revision/study tips, i got a great one called how to pass exams and it really helped, when i was taking my exams i was so well prepped i felt as if it had been fun doing the exam rather than a chor.

also if its relevant to your study i use time lines a lot, if there are things i have to remember and use in quotes for the exams i set up a word doc with bullet points and use different colours for names, dates and events (so people i have to remember will be in red, events in blue and dates in green) and list them all cronologically so that if you need to remember that james smith was elected presedent of anusol on the 12/07/1987 you know that that date came between mary jones giving birth to quadruplets in 1985 and phyllis hodge killing the last remaining spotted badger hawk in 1990 (for example lol)

and make sure your notes are all filed away and make sense, the condensing is something that is invaluable as it stops you remembering heaps of useless shite on top of the stuff you have to know.

oh and know your limits, i am perfectly useless after 7pm my brain switches off and is incapable of anything other that absorbing stuff from the tv so i set my study times to work from about 9am up to 5pm which gives me time to get in some exercise and wind down for a good nights sleep, if you study right up to when you sleep your brain wont be able to switch off.

That's the problem with me too. After I revise for a short "break" I just end up not revising at all.

I just buckle down and do it. Gets me my grades in the end of the day.

1) Read it.
2) Make notes.
3) Memorise them.
4) Make notes by memory next day.
5) If step 4 is inadequate go to step 1.

It's probably not very modern, or fun but when it really matters that's how I do it.

edit: oh and do a subject per day (my advise) so you can fully concentrate on it :)

i try a subject per day but 2 of them i simply cannot handle them for a full day.

one of them is 2 more subjects in the subject. and the other one is just a load of shit that i hate :(
