lol what you need to know?

First problem to solve is you need a way to bring in ISK. MIssions running, Mining (yawn) or trading.

There are plenty of posts and threads about starting out in EVE here. They are still viable even now. Just browse around.

Other than that, the forums over at eve-online.com are important, for example this thread: Links

Almost impossible to say mate :)

What do you find interesting / want to do?

You need to find a part of Eve that grabs you. Play to your style, not the other way around - the way I play Eve is enjoyable for me, it's not for everyone.

Anyways, add me to your address book, and can have a chat when we're both online - should be on a fair bit tomorrow.

Eszencia.

There are lots of so called professions in Eve, I doubt it's easy to find someone who sticks to one style of play indefinately. In my time (18 months now - whoops!) I have missioned, mined (with an alt), pirated (poorly), explored (my number 1 past-time) & helped my alliance repel hostile gangs (also poorly).

If you are keen to get into big ships and shoot things, I would suggest starting on missions and working your way up through them. Big ships hurt the walltet more when you lose them though. If you are more interested in social play and are happy to fill a role in a group, I would suggest getting straight in with a corp that is happy to teach players. Tackling frigate pilots can be very valuable in most gang situations and can be done relatively efficiently with low skill points.

I hear Eve-Uni is recommended a lot for PvP training, however the whole outfit seems a little American to me :eek7: with their diplomas and sh*t. I'm sure Sharkith has more of an idea of what is a good starting point in that area as I believe he has recruited a fair few pilots to his mercenary corp.

I don't believe that Eve is a game of instant gratification, skills train over time and the real grind is that of isk. Finding an enjoyable way of earning enough isk to keep stock of the ships you like flying is pretty much the way to go.

Almost 6pm, time to go home :)

This last point is crucial. Eve is rewarding as your character and career takes shape. That takes months. If you want to PvP then you need a good income and a decent corp to support you as you develop. Eve Uni is a good starter corporation. My advice is simply sit around and think about what you want. Then plan out how you can become the very best at it.

Do the tutorial first - it lets you sample many things and gets you a few skillbooks and an implant.

Just try as many things as you can at first - I only started 3 months ago but I'm now mostly manufacturing/trading and doing a bit of logistics - the missions bore me to tears but youll have to find your own path.

Join a corp - a decent one will answer your questions and save you wasting your training and its more fun to be social :)

Finally - Do NOT rush to get into the bigger ships - you wont have the skills to support them and its upsetting to see an expensive ship wrecked!

Welcome to Eve - if you can survive the first month you'll probably be hooked but beware of a very steep learning curve - this game is deep!

Any char can do the tutorial at any time now afaik. Click the bird's face near the bottom of the left hand side menu, should be able to go from there.

Hmmmm yeah it does say that - you might need to be in space when you click it?

Says the same thing when in space. I would assume I need to be back in the newbie start area.

EVE could be fricken amazing, but that gateganking crap is just boring. Look at the trailers, they are stunning, then the reality of just doing mishes or pharming asteroids or being a killboard victim forever... zzz...

I wonder what could be done about these things - I don't know if CCP care though, would you if you were raking in the dough?

Hmm... I posted something similar about a year ago, if I remember correctly :(

EvE is a giant "sandbox" environment where the users create thier own gameplay experiance. CCP give us the tools and we make the game. Griefers are a way of life in every game that you play just in EvE you cant hide behind raid rules or your own frontier. You do have the safety of Empire space but if you go into low sec without a scout you are as good as a statistic and ill send you an evemail thanking you for your donations to the "Kev needs a new pair of shoes and a Bhaalgorn" fund.

Eve is a breath of fresh air to be truly able to do absolutly ANYTHING you want. If someone piss you off - gank em, if someone steals your gear - kill them, if someone in low sec kills you - hire MC to go and remove them from the area. The freedom that eve offers means you are limited only by your imagination as to what you can and can't do

i take it you autopiloted everywhere u went? suit yourself then tbfh.

you dont even need a scout when ur in lowsec. all you need to do is check the map and see how many ships has been destroyed in the last hour in the system ur going to jump to. that and pilots active in space is all you really need to prevent you from being a killboard statistic (for the most part).

and ofc, warp core stabilizers are never a bad thing in low sec if you dont want to pvp.

but if all you do is use autopilot and not checking the map then its all you that are to be blamed for what happens when you exit on the other side.

so stop using autopilot, use the map info and warp to within 0 meters of the stargates and you will get ganked very rarely unless ur sleeping in a T1 frigatte.

I hope that he meant that camping a gate is borning, he has a point though, many of the player made trailers are highly misleading, you never fly so much zoomed in when you PvP.

yes ofc its boring. but its also extreamly profitable because WAY to many ppl use the autopilot and then cry when they get ganked.
