Retail CS v Mod CS

Hi, these are probably easy questions but as I don't know the answers I have to ask them anyway, SORRY!

1) Can anyone tell me what's the difference between the Retail CS and the MOD CS if any as I've got both and I'd like to know which is the best?

2) If I was to install the Retail version do I still need to have Half-Life installed before I do so (because I'd like to uninstall HL to give me some more space) or is the retail version of CS a stand alone?

3) If it is a stand alone do I still have to get the HL 1109 patch to make CS 1.4 work?

Retail needs: Counter-Strike 1.0.0.4

Mod Needs: Counter-Strike 1.4 + Half-Life 1.1.0.9

They are exactly the same, but VALVe forgot to bundle a few maps with the retail so you have to download them in a big pack.

I think I'll install the retail version and get those maps that you mentioned seeing as I never actually ply HL.
