render creation faild !?!?!

hello. can someone give me an exactly web site to where i can download the new DirectX verson?? i have tryed to download from Microsoft.com and from www.download.com but it doesnt work ;/ it says that i allready have the newest verson of it ;/ but i still get the creation faild message when i try to logg in to a server on daoc ;/ can someone plz help me?

in case your in doubt what version of dx your running do following
In XP the command sequence is: start-->run--> Type in the following: dxdiag

At the bottom of the window that pops up "DirectX Diagnotic tool" it should state what version directx you are running.
