This would probably be mightily unpopular with current players, i'd certainly miss it as someone who despises pve but i think its necessary to make the game more accessible to new players
at the moment the lowbie zones are all dead, there are not enough new players joining the game to give new players the oportunity to group with anyone till lvl 20 if their lucky, if theres meant to be an influx of new players with catacombs, make everyone start out at lvl 1, not just the new classes, that way the new players would actually have people to grp with, and make the game more enjoyable for them.
if someone who had never played before picked up daoc and wow now, wow theres people to grp with and talk too from the start, daoc you'll most likely be all alone, hardly an encouragement for new players to stick with the game.

as a new player, it takes the first 20 odd levels to learn how to play the game properly. I started this game not so long ago and to be honest by the time i wanted to experiance grouping within the game i was already well within my 20's. To be honest i am still looking forward to my first 50 and start /level command. On my second character it only took a few days to get to 20 thanks to kill tasks.

Also bear in mind that /level is not active for the new classes iirc?

So there will be plenty of "oldies" around on Vamps/Warlocks/Heretics etc :)

as far as i know /level will still be here but can not be used on the new classes...says nothing on herald of all patches that they would remove /leve command for the old classes

This is correct. And since the old players will most likely be rolling the new classes if they roll new characters they will also start from level 1 just like any newbies :>

Myself i plan to roll a Valkyrie and exp her in the new zones the old fasihoned way, wont even have my bb with me in catas :) Bring on the groups!

We can't remove /level. Unless Mythic patch it out it's not going to go away. If you want to see it gone the Feedback form on the Camelot Herald can be found here.

Even if they did remove /level it wouldn't change a thing, well not much anyway.
People just powerlevel their toon anyway which will also happen when catacombs will arrive and the new classes who can't do /level still people will have them at 50 in 1-3 days due to powerlevelling.
If they removed powerlevelling (which I have no idea how they could do that) then yes it would make a change but as of now I hardly see exp groups below level 40 anyway people just powerlevel themselves to 40-50 it's less hassle and faster than regular groups.

I am actually of the belief that removing /level would hurt new players entering the game.

As a new player you tend to know very little about the game and the commands etc. One of the fun things about the game is learning how to play and exploring the game for the first time. This is often easy to do if you can find a group with 1 or 2 other newbies.

By letting existing level 50 characters go straight to level 20 it keeps them out of the way of the new players. I've recently started helping one of my housemates real life friends start to play the game starting at level 1. What you realise quite quickly is there's nothing more daunting for a newbie than someone who knows everything already and wants to get on with leveling.

How many level 50's do you know that would be prepared to wait around for 5 minutes at level 2 while someone works out how to use the /stick command. Maybe for a friends sure, but for a complete stranger?

/level 20 lets people explore the start of the game at their own pace without the fear of a powergamer getting frustrated at there lack of knowledge. Those with 50's that want to help can do, but those that want to get on and level asap don't have to shout at the new guy to come here and attack this idiot, which can only be a good thing for those learning their way around the game.

A lot of level 50's are scary at low levels. They don't understand that protect and guard don't really work (or even exist) at those levels, and I've seen level 50 tactics kill low level groups many a time.

Things get easier for them after 20.

I cant say I ever agreed with the /level 20 command on the servers with high population, let alone the /level 30 some servers had. This didnt envcorage new players, just old ones who wanted to roll the FOTM to go wtfpwn in RvR asap rsvp etc.

New players (thats people buying the game today) find little or no grouping making seer classes virtually impossible, unlike the old days where everywhere from Nisses lair to Spinlehalla had groups grinding away.

It also removed a major part of the social aspect of the game. While we still chat in RvR, its mainly kept to "firby west!" and "1fg camping poc with shrooms!", whereas in the old days during PVE we made freinds, had a laugh and chortled at the way we all fell to our demise on that purple mob someone just lag pulled.

Yet again we come down to what individuals think the "end game" of DAoC is. Lets face it, it takes such a short time for anyone with cash and freinds to get to 20, its hardly worth it anymore, the level a week is better IMO, and this DOES help new players.

Think this is another thing people will divide on, but thats my 2c.

I do miss the times when there was a lot of chat in the game, a lot of grouping with random people, through all the levels. it just seems to have got so empty now at lower levels, and SI gave more choice of locations for low levels, and /level took away the amount of people using them. so now all the low areas are spread out.

i do miss the old days of grouping with people at low lvl and making friends in the game, these days its actually extreamly hard to make friends with people due to alot of the high lvls are elitists most of the time unless your in there guild or there group of select friends(noobs :p) in any case, the full low lvl group wipes were always funny as hell to be in, remember laughing at most of them :), and i remember when if a group died people didnt just disband the group and leave (Oh how i hate that, why o why do people do that), ah well, that was a couple of years ago, things have changed, and i doubt they will change back, the only thing that will make a diffrence to it all is if the players them self do the changing, the game hasnt changed much, not as much as people think, its the attitude of the players that has.

eek, my longest post yet i think :p
