First, in Percival ppl did it in TWO hours and NOTHING happened (almost same number). So Europe players r that much worse than American ones?

Second, if gank ppl in emain´s the ONLY FUN u have in this game... well... that´s wot u will even get as respect, get beat the crap out of u ^_^

I gave 30 Minutes of my real life to respect Oggy and the way he played the game and the amount of friends & enemies he made in this game... taking 30 minutes out of 24 hours of 1 day of my life is nothing compaired to me wasting more then 30 minutes reading all these posts with people moaning about something that "EVERYONE" knew was going to happen, there was a truce for 25 to 30 minutes which TD wanted and they got...

They have even asked you all to stop with the flaming because they got to moarn for Oggy in those 30 minutes with no one acting stupid.. anything that happened after the truce is no ones fault..

Just leave it behind us and play the game (people saying this is just a game and not rl life your totally wrong, you take time out of your real life to play this game, you spend the time playing this game acting like the person you created.... once you have understood this, maybe then you will understand what half of the guys here are talking about)

I knew Oggy only from my first few weeks of playing, during which I found him to be a nice fellow. It saddens me that he died. I honour him by recalling his personality every now and then, like I do with anyone I knew and liked who died irl.

I can agree with people who consider it wrong to honour a player in this game. Some people like to keep a clear distinction between playing a game and their real life. I can also agree with the memorial. It's a game, but it's also played by reallife people who take time off from doing other things to organise something together in honour of someone who died. So, arguments can be raised for both sides.

No argument can be raised to justify swearing, namecalling, and disrespecting eachother over this. Everyone having done so should wonder very hard if they understand the notion of respect. Respecting someone who has died means nothing if you can't muster respect for those who live just because they don't share your opinion.

The one thing in common in almost every one of these posts is that people say they respect the dead whether it be in real life or in game.

Fine, so you disagree/agree with what went on - Everyone has expressed their views now - show the aforementioned respect for those who have passed on and please drop it.

I dont care if your pride has been insulted or your delicate ego's bruised - everyone has their own viewpoints on the matter and are obviously unwilling to change them whether it be through insults or reasoned argument.

A much more fitting and appropriate place to mourn and pay respect to Oggy would have been a flame free thread on these forums. Instead someone organised a memorial in Emain doomed to failure from the very outset, and these forums are aflame with the result of that misguided decision.

It's a shame that the original tragedy of the untimely death of a human has turned into a flamefest with Albs, Mids and Hibs all cussing each other. Put it into perspective, the guy died, his family are suffering a real loss, Daoc is just a computer game.

Wow. And there was me thinking that online games were popular because of the human element - if people want just pure games, don't play online with other people. The people behind each player, behind each conversation, guess what - they are real. Real people, real lives, real emotions. Just because they are represented by pixellated graphics rendered by your latest geforce 4 doesn't mean thats what they actually are. The people that say "this isn't RL" astound me. Its a real person that you may or may not have interacted with, how much more real does someone have to be? Maybe the location was misjudged, but hell, even the English and the Germans could play footie over no-mans land at christmas, so why is it such a stretch to think people playing characters in a game where, frankly, the outcome of RVR accounts for nada in the grand scheme of things, why is it such a stretch for them to do so?

I don't think its sick. People talked with this guy, interacted with this guy, and he died. He was a part of their community and they wanted to show their respect. Are they not allowed to mourn simply because maybe some of them never saw him face to face? Are they not allowed to mourn simply because *you* don't want them to?

This thread is getting locked. It's not even intellectual debate on the subject, even the title of this thread is sensationalist and just asking for flames. If you disagree, maybe if you air it in a compassionate yet opposing voice you might get listened to. The arseholes anonymous campaign just makes you look cold hearted and cretinous.
