I know a lot of peeps will flame me but a memorial in a game is going way too far. This is a game its about having fun, not about rl and people dying.
Why anyone would want to publicise the death of someone to thousands of people playing a game really dont make sense.
This is a game! not rl, daoc has nothing to do with rl events and the 2 shouldnt be mixed.
I hate hearing about people dying but i totally disagree with what is going on in emain.
/salute to the peeps i was grped with today for playing as normal and farming gorge while this "memorial" was going on.
My grp killed someone @ amg but it was np to me and my grp we werent part of what was going on, cause we thought it was totally wrong.
If people want to remember the dead a game is the wrong place imo, do it in rl.

optical,

your opinions are your own and I respect what you say but look at it from Terra dominus view. Oggy was not only a 'player' but a friend. Listen to this.... A FRIEND, and as such we should honour the fact that he has died. Your killing in the gorge was fine, I had no probs with this, but please give those who knew and loved oggy some time to grieve.

We didn't ask everyone to come to emain, we said they could but the event was for TD to remember the lose of a truely good friend.

Please just respect what we did as an act of rememberance and not as something sick. He was a real man, not an npc or somin like that, and as such we treated the event as such.

Stop being an ass and show some compassion.

Exaktly!, Optical what if one of your best ingame friends
died and your guild did arrange a similar event would
you still run around killing everybody? try to use the few
braincells you actually have before posting nonsense
like this.

What i find sick is that you can't be without rp for 30 minutes,
respect the other players wishes and even if you don't agree with the majority just do something else for 30 minutes is that
to much to ask.

in the case of losing a good ingame friend etc i reckon a private TD an maybe alliance and maybe peeps who knew him event shoulda been held somewhere in hib e.g. in alb case in the camelot round table or something.. or even camelot church or cemetary which would be similar to the rl event.

face it 90% of the rest of excal didnt know him and the whole matter would have been solved with less..... trouble? is that the right word? if this event had been held as i had mentioned, a mourning for those who knew him etc.

if u wanna mix irl events with a game then take this for an example:

do we mourn over the death of everyone that dies? or are the people that mourn the people who knew him/her? u dont see peeps turn up at mournings, grieving over ppl they dont know and in some cases - dont care about? sure condolences are always nice but inviting "strangers" to mourn just doesnt really cut it..

hehe and u guys were supposed to be the mature, noble players holding a memorable ceremony... u guys expressed your views, mourned the death of a colleague - didnt get what u expected tho and i understand the disappointment you guys must have had.
I voice mine and this is what i get? ^^

dunno but if u feel free to swear then go ahead.. its a free world ;)

You are forgetting one very important point. This game is played by real people.

If people want to remember the dead a game is the wrong place imo, do it in rl.
If you wanted that to happen, perhaps you could have sent plane/train/bus tickets to the +/-600 people whose characters attended.

Serious !! thats what i say if people can not find it in there hearts to respect fellow gamers that play games as much as they do even if they dont know them ....Well they have no Soul and will be judged by there actions and thougths..

A Person Died and yes it is a game but if anyone posts like Optical and Gunner after i post this well imo they SHOULD GOTO HELL..

And i hope they do as they wont be seeing Oggy :)...

Regards Nicky..

Look..

Yes its a game.
BUT, if one of your GOOD friends had died in game you wouldnt give a shit ?
Maybe you didnt know them irl, but after playing a game with someone for over a year you can become quite close to them, without actually ever meeting them.

I never met Oggy, he was around before my time, but TD had lost a great friend to thier guild and wanted to show some respect for him in the best way that they could.
Now if you think that killing all of TD is funny then you a fucked up sick bastard, and makes me think you have no friends at all, hence cannot relate to this situation.

Did you attend the Sept 11th meeting in Hadrians ?
I doubt that anyone will have known someone in the terrible dissaster n New York but alot of people showed up to mark thier respect for the great tragedy..
Have some respect and dont be such a heartless bastard, and get a life.

Your view is your own optical - nobody can argue with an opinion.

HOWEVER when you act on an opinion you must take the consequences of such an action - which will probably not be favourable when those actions are contrary to the wishes of most of your fellow games.

And yes that is aimed at whoever couldnt hold off making rps for 30 whole minutes at a time. I wont even waste my breath flaming you - you realm-mates will do that for me. Anyone ever tested how big an /ignore list can go? I think they'll be finding out pretty soon.....

Some of you people really need to get out more, like i said, this is a game not a place for memorials.
Maybe you people aint got lives beyond this game so your only way of ever interacting with real people are through this game. I feel sorry for you.

<sighs> Optical i think you've mistaken those attending the memorial for people who actually give a shit about your opinion. Now post something vaguely compassionate, intelligent, or alternatively - shut the fuck up :)

Just to add my tuppence -
I unfortuantly didn't attend, but from what I can make out some people decided to disrupt the event at the end.
IMO, if you don't wish to mourn then don't come, if you do then respect the wishes of the guild and do not gank. Yes, it was held on a RvR playground for the simple fact so that people from all realms could attend, and that emain was where he used to hunt from what I can gather.
To say you didn't know about it is pretty lame, it was not only posted on these boards in advance, it was also posted on the main daoc site. Also many guilds had already informed there members in game of what was going on. Fine, if you had still missed the fact that it was going on then the site of so many people just standing there doing nothing I would have thought is a fair indication that something is going on so perhaps asking someone before you raise your sword woulden't require much brain cells.
Im not pointing the finger, nor is this a flame, im just pointing a few things and expressing my thoughts, neither am I going to discuss whether it was right or wrong to hold it in game, i'll leave that to the whiners. The fact that Terra Dominus has said that they were happy with the ceromony in my eyes put's an end to the discussion.

Going out more has nothing to do with those who attended to pay their respects, knowing oggy or not.

Those who started the trouble acted selfishly, it wasn't much to ask for at all, people from 3 realms attended and a minority decided it would be a hoot to do something stupid, don't blame those who respectfully attended for not having lives, they remembered one...the rest forgot what RL is about.

Maybe you could step away from your keyboard and contemplate why people do these things.

Best not to look on the negatives here and start a flame war (as this post was intended to do)...

The positives are the the whole server got togther in honor a gr8 guy who passed away....

Considering the amoung of people in the bowl it was remarkable how peaceful it was there. And this peace was because many people wanted to come to pay their respects to Oggy.

Thanks to all the people for Albion and Midguard and Hibernia who came...

im gonna add to this little thread i totaly agree with OPTICAL i was apart of his group today that didnt come to the memorial no we carried on like normal but comon why couldnt it be held in hib? or even somewhere in the frontier where it was less populated?

I paid my respects to oggy as soon as i read the post on BW yesterday i did'nt bring it into a game and i bet if oggy was still around he wouldnt want us to be remembering him in a game.

im gonna add to the september 11th thing there was a 5mins silence in most countries at a certain time around the world right?

well for those ppl who went to the 5mins silence in HW are fucking sad gits why couldnt u do the 5mins silence like everyone else in the world? buttttt noooooo the ppl who cant be bothered to get away from the pc dicided to do it on a game lol GET A LIFE nuff said flame all u want because frankley i dont give a fuck.

PS my group killed 1 person in emain today that was at MMG after that we went onto the hib gorge where we farmed 20k of rps.
just stating the fact we had nothing to do with the gate crashing of the memorial.

Well there was about 400+ people in emain so I guess if that's how people choose to do it let them, who are you to decide if it's a thing of value or not? Stick to the gorge where we can gank you on the way past.

Easy to call those people sad isn't it, rather than respect the majority of the server population and let them get on with it, you disagree with the method, fine but there is no excuse for anyone to start farming on such an occasion.

The memorial before that foolish point was a refreshing change, I saluted some enemies of mine, had a dance and a laugh before paying solemn respects.

Once over everyone could have backed off then gone on with things as normal, takes more effort than it's worth for some people it seems.

the point optical is trying to make is that this is a game therefore RL shouldnt be brought into it.
