Wonder if anyone can help, been trying to find a reliable .co.uk host for a website for a friend. They need to have good support and not expensive - but good support is the key.

My friend is starting up a couple of businesses and so is the website at the moment is mainly for an email address with a basic front page but will probably be expanded to have a basic functional site in the future.

So anyone got any suggestions?

www.34sp.com appear to have excellent service (irc, email, phone, forums etc). I've got several hostings with them but never needed to test it out.

15 per year but not a lot of space.

Webmania I also use who offer 500 Mb hosting for £20 per year but suspect their service is slightly worse (not that I've had a problem when using them)

I have a 2 hosted domains with B-one. Think I get 600mbs each for very little money. Very rarely do I have a concern over their service though they tend to reply quite quickly if I do bring something up. Very cheap infact looking at the prices - 300 mb for 90p a month! or 600 for £1.90 a month. They also give you £50 towards a google ad campaign :) . Glad I looked at the prices cos I shall reduce mine to the 90p one as I don't need all that space. Though read up on their policies as they won't allow you to distribute downloadable files to all and sundry.

Personally as soon as my paid hosting runs out I am going to run my site off my home server (totally free :) ). If you use very fast forums like minibb you can do so quite easily - DeveloperSide.NET (home server setup).

I also use these for a few of my sites, very cheap and usually enough space to start with, plus you can always upgrade if the site gets too big. The servers seem pretty fast too. Not sure about customer support, I haven't had a need to contact them yet. :)
