I read the 1.87 (and 1.88 coming) patch notes,
and i realise things are quite different now.
So autotrain now happens to any character no matter how or when he trains his points?
Does autotrain work in /level characters?
Ah btw /level is still lvl 20 or higher?
And i realise it must be a lot easier now to go from lvl 1-50 with the changes in health/power regen right?

cheers for any answers:)

Autotraining works regardless of when you train or do /level, very nice.
/level is still 20, does not work on cata or labby classes (they get +50% exp lvl 5-20 instead).
Leveling is easy with regens, freelvls, new quests.

AUTOTRAINING is no longer available - if you read the patch notes you would know this.

Sorry to sound rude but it was taken out in 1.87.

auto training was taken out of it in its old form
now it works in that unless you spec in the line that did auto train you not get any free points ie
at lvl 50 on a scout you have 2979 points to spend if you train in archery to lvl12 you will still have 2979 points to spend after that you will see your points go down
hope that helped

Still not sure anyone here has actually got it right.

Firstly autotraining is effectively still there but it has evolved. Only classes that had autotraining before have it now, no change there.

In the old system you would be awarded a free level in your autotrain line(s) for every character level you reached that was divisible by 4. This means level 8, 12, 16 ... 48. This means you effectively got the first 12 levels of your autotrain line free but only if you never specced in your autotrain line upto level 48. If you did spec any points then autotraining stopped.

Now it is actually very similar but subtly different. When you reach a level divisible by 4 you get a number of "hidden" spec points added to your total spec points pool for that level. The number is your level divided by 4 which in the old system was enough to get you your free level in the autotrain line. You don't actually see these spec points but if you spec in your autotrain line you won't see your spec points pool decrease until you have used up your hidden points. But the good news is if you do spec early in your autotrain line you still keep getting the "hidden" points right up until level 48. If you spec your autotrain line past your number of "hidden" spec points then the spec points are taken out of the normal spec points pool. If this is the case when you reach a level divisible by 4 then instead of being hidden the spec points are refunded directly to your general spec points pool until it has cancelled out the original overspend.

Let's take the example of Scouts. You can keep longbow equal to your level if you want all the way from level 5 to level 50 and you still get the extra autotrain points to spend in other lines. You can spec whenever you like in your autotrain line and STILL get ALL your autotrain points by level 48.

Don't worry about how it is done tbh, just know that whatever you do, however you spec and whenever you spec any line including your autotrain line you will ALWAYS get full autotrain points.

Phew.

I know you did but when you said this:

I thought I would just expand on it a little more so that when people are levelling rather than doing respecs or forced respecs at level 50 they could see what to expect from their spec points total depending on whether or not they choose to spec in their autotrain line.

No offence intended.

That's the main point i guess, along with the fact that it works on /level characters too:)
