and as raven says gta4 with all the gx mods looks nothing short of stunning made the steam xmas offer even more worth it:) still think the bank job is the best part of the game tho

I've played red dead a few hours now and what's so good about it? It seems like this is the game that would have been made if the tech wasn't capable of GTA4 with its sparse landscapes and few people.

I seem to just spend my time making a camp to quick travel to each town. Does it get better? I'm 15hrs or so into GTA4 having started playing that again and would have rather have been playing that instead.

MP seems better than GTA though.

When travelling by horse you can encounter strangers or world events and some people think it fun to ride horse I guess

All in all the shooting mechanics have been vastly improved compared to GTA4, but in the end it's highly dependant if one likes the western setting at all really

Picked it up on the weekend, loving it so far, been playing for around 7 hours. Noticed they fixed the shooting and cover mechanic from GTA4 I longer feel like Nikko the Robot, it feels alot more natural. I like the horse riding, though I did feel like a kid again when I was in armadillo and had to get to Mcfarlane and I heard the train pull up. I shouted Train! and jumped on then got on the roof for the hell of it, half way through and fell off lol. Liking the bounty missions hope they are randomly generated and don't run out. Watched a movie in the church, was odd. This game has already renewed my faith in Rockstar and makes me have hopes for GTA5 after the let down that was GTA4, the expansions were ok but the main game was so boring and the friend system is the worst game mechanic in the history of games, I hate it.

Theres your major problem there, dont use camps, you are missing so much out by quick travelling. Go by horse and you will come across so much more. Loads of people screaming for help, help lawmen catch escaped bandits etc

Loving it so far, only thing i think is missing is a bit more music. Some npcs playing in bands or something would be nice imo :)

Yes indeed, people were quite passionate about music just as almost any point in human history. Except the piano guy and some more modern background music in certain points in the game, it's quite lacking

Tis indeed an awesome game, loving the storyline. I seem to do nothing but shootouts in the multiplayer, random death from complete strangers in the roaming game gets old fast.

i got so bored of the multiplayer cant even leave the towns cause of everyone just killing each other. I was roaming with a posse of 5 which was great once leaving the towns. Killing bandit camps etc, then others would just get in the way.

You can tell its all people who have never played proper PVP games only killing for the sake of it

Nope, John was never supposed to win. You'll be able to continue playing as his son Jack with everything you achieved with John (weapons, challenges etc). Also make sure to pick up the new newspaper :)

Oh yes, I knew about playing as Jack ... and I filled the lawman with lead in revenge.

I've not used the newspapers or looked at them. Where do I find them? :D

You'll find a guy standing and hawking newspapers in the large towns, it's a newspaper icon on the map. Just keep looking for one. After you've completed the game it has some funny short articles about what happened to some of the characters John met during the game
