not quite melting, buckling

u kno im sure that when something is heated it expands...

think about 100000 of KM of rails welded together under tension, if each section expands by 1mm ...

Probably old railroad because the problem can be easily circumvented. I am not familiar with British Railroads tho, so I dunno how old the tracks are.

My guess is that it has nothing to do with how old they are, but rather of how much they counted the temperature to reach when they built the railroad in the first place.

mighty old.

I was on the eurostar once and an american asked why we were going so slowly - the [french] steward person told them that we'd speed up when we got through the tunnel into france cos the railways weren't crap there.

Hot weather fucking sucks...explain to me what is so good about sweating all day and night for weeks on end...

...bring on the winter and snow.

I shall be sheltering from the horrible heat with a cold beer and exploring what 1.62 has to offer me.

No, it has to do with the age. In the 'old' days physics and industry wheren't very linked as it is now..

As a result engineers just 'did' what they thought was ok.. Dutch word 'natte vingerwerk' meaning they just guessed abit.

Nowadays Physics is involved into it, because it's needed: It's too expensive to shutdown something because the temperature goes over XX degrees.

It has nothing to do with old materials or something if you mean that.. Just that they didn't use any math before plumping down the track :p

Simple, first reason girls start to drop most of their cloth :)
You can sit out in the sun enjoying a ice cold beer.
You can go swimming and looking at girls with even less on, all wet :p

I love summer, winter sucks so hard unless you are skieing :)

Only bad thing atm is that im on work sitting infront of a PC and outside there is a heatwave /:
