for the people that can read, so about 15% of FH xD

need some new books to read, prefrable mini series/trilogies stand alones are good aswell but sometimes you get really involved with the charecters

read all sorts or books but my favriot genre is probly historical fiction (if you've never read the emporer or conquerer series by conn iggulden they are AMAZING, emporer is 4 books about julius cesaer from childhood to death and the conquerer ones are about gengis khan again from childhood to death, their very in depth aswell in both seriers the first book only gets them to like mid teens all embelished with artistic lisence)

also like dan browns stuff, like the whole mystrey and ancient cults and texts ect

also love colin bateman who has written shit loads and thier all really dark humor set in n.ireland gangs ira ect ect but brilliantly written

so

dont know if you into light fantasy at all but just about any robin hobb book is good they are all trilogies and each book ive read has had me readin to the point of gettin next to no sleep before getting up for work the next day.

best one to start with is the farseer trilogy first book is assasins apprentice there is another trilogy that carries on the main chars story and that is the tawny man trilogy.

not read the liveship trilogy yet but im told they are excellent currently on the 3rd book of soldier son trilogy and i think its fantastic cant wait to see how it ends the 2nd book was one i could not put down

i guess you could say they were set around medieval times

cant reccomend them enought tho they are amazing.

The Rigante series by David Gemmell. Its kind of an alternative history which starts around the times of the Romans but in an alternative world and ends in the age of the British Empire. There are 4 in the series which follow descendants of the original character. All great as single stories but its best to read them in order.

1. Sword in the Storm (1999)
2. Midnight Falcon (2000)
3. Ravenheart (2001)
4. Stormrider (2002)

A Song of Ice and Fire series by George RR Martin

And the Malazan books by Steven Erikson and Ian Easlemont

Both long series', lots of war, lots of blood, lots of political manoeuvring. Great characters in both.

Neil Gaiman does wonderful work, i always say it in threads like this, but i, who does not read that much, actually read these.

Neverwhere.
American gods.
Anansi boys.

From the top of my head and suggest that order.

Raymond E Feist has written around 20+ fantasy books which are all within the same planet. It's made up of trilogies/saga's and some characters are in all of the books which is really cool.

If you're interested, let me know and i'll list the first ones.

Gohan, although the Hobb books are good, they are not a patch on A Song of Ice and Fire series which are set in a medieval alternative Britain with elements of myth and fantasy as a backdrop. Having read both, I'd certainly go with George RR Martin first.

The Night Angel trilogy by Brent Weeks.

1. Way of Shadows
2. Shadows Edge
3. Beyond the Shadows

Easily the best books I've ever read... and re-read, I've just recently finished them, again. Think I'm literally on the 10th time now.

Think a Dark Fantasy "Lord of the Rings", much, much darker and grittier, with the really stupid parts taken out :D

Honestly, anyone who hasn't read them, GO AND DO IT RIGHT NOW!!! :D

a song of fire and ice is indeed a good series of books very heavy stuff tho its quite graphic, they are great books but the hobb books are alot easier to read imo.

I was left feeling a bit empty after them, great books, but I felt they should have been longer and have more content. I'm hoping he continues the story with another trilogy to fill the hole.

They have their own planet called Midkemia. It's got elves, dwarves, humans in much like all fantasy books. The 20+ books are all set on this planet/world. There are a couple of exceptions where they travel to different planets, but ultimately it's all based on Midkemia.

You know how with Lord of the Rings you had the whole story of frodoe's dad and how he got the ring, then before that the big bad dude who forged it, then the people who destroyed it etc etc. it's like that. Different events occur over x years on the same planet. Some characters carry over into the other saga's etc.

This is the first trilogy;
Magician (Riftwar Saga): Amazon.co.uk: Raymond E. Feist: Books

Silverthorn (Riftwar Saga 2): Amazon.co.uk: Raymond E. Feist: Books

A Darkness at Sethanon: The Triumphant Finale to the Riftwar Saga Riftwar Saga 3: Amazon.co.uk: Raymond E. Feist: Books

I shall take this opportunity to direct you to my blog *points* which is a review of all the books I have read for about the last 2 years and there are some great series; Jim Butchers 'Dresden files' are a great bunch of books about a wizard in chicago who has an ad in the yellow pages and works with the police to solve crimes and there are a lot of regular crime series in there too...if you like sci-fi though the Pax Britannia books (first one 'unnatural selection' J. Green) are really great fun.
