i've tried gaim and another kde thing, but neither connect :(

You mean msn messenger? If so you could try Trillion Messenger.

yup - Trillian is pretty good.

Incorporates mirc, msn, aim, icq and jabber all in one.

never liked trillian in windows, this is for linux btw

PS teh kde one i tried was Kopete btw

It takes some tweaking and looking around for plugins to get it the way YOU want it, but after that it's so sweet. Supports MSN, AIM, IRC, ICQ, AOL, Gadu-Gadu... and some more protocols.

Edit: Saw you said GAIM so I assume you plan to use Linux. A friend's been using Kopete, and was quite pleased with it.

tried a few now, and i've come to to oppertunity that it's linux that's naffed

i'm sure it'll fix it's self sooner or later
