I do know that Microsoft offers substantial(like 30-40%) cost reductions for students atleast in Sweden, not really sure how it works in the UK but worth checking out.

Else you always have the 100% free versions on the net ><

If you Google "Ultimate Steal" you might find info on when MS plan to bring back their £40 for the whole office suite for students. Its not long finished but I imagine it will be back up soon.

(By whole office suite, I mean the whole office suite - nothing was cut out at all!)

I'd suggest before you buy it, contacting your uni (after enrollment) and asking them about any such deals you get as a student. Personally I managed a free copy of Microsoft visual studios, windows XP pro, vista (still need to be pick that up...) among others.

While you may not get it for free (I was part of the faculty of technology here, no other faculties got it free), they should be able to tell you of any offers about you can get as a student. Think I saw Office for sale for £40 at the end of last year.

Are you sure that's not just because it's Windows? how long have you had it on your machine, because on my desktops I find that after a while it starts just getting buggier and buggier, nothing to do with it being a legal copy or not.

Really only get unwanted crap if you use one of HP's/Dells/IBM's or whatever restore discs tho, putting back the bloatware that slowed it down in the first place :p

I was thinking the same thing too. I was gonna say you could try these double glazing windows.

But as for windows XP, if you live in the UK, you can probably pick up some from the Tottenam High Road from the local merchants at the PC room.

If you're not in the UK, I would try the local PC rooms. I'm sure they could slip you a legit version.
