Recent Detonator Driver Problem ?

any one out there use a gefroce/geforce 2, or are u all ati types ?


i guess most ppl here use a geforce and with you all being nerdy type , id guess you try the new Detonator drivers when they come out .......

the problem is that sine 6.50 i havent been able to set the refresh rate above 75 Hz

is this me or a general problem ?

its nice to try the new drivers ... u never no thay might find a few fps somewhere, but i like to play at 800x600 at 140Hz refresh rates so 75 feels horrid.

Nah, I'm sticking with the older drivers... had problems with the latest detonators & my old tnt2 card... I'm happy to let other people be the guinea-pigs

I'm running the leaked 10.50 Drivers.

They work fine.
The other bonus is that Shogun now works.

Get HZTool from http://www.tweakfiles.com and u can set massif refresh rates using that. Sorted.

hehe iam not a plebb u no, but i guess i should have said so also iam on Win2k .... but its the same on win98 ...


yep, i have set the refresh rates using the nvrefresh util (2k) and HzTool (98), and i have checked it in the registry ... it should be 140, it ust isent.

funny tho when i use 6.5 and lower its great, greater than that everything is capped to 75 Hz ?

I never moved from 6.18.

7+ is for DX8 tho really init ?

yep, but using Win2k, its better to have Dx8 installed, and you really should keep the drivers matching the version ...


alltho its more a case of trying them and seeing

Well, i'm on WinME and dx8, my drivers and Nvidia 12/04/2000 (not sure what version) and it works fine... whatever works for you m8... like you say, it's a case of "suck it and see"

Hehe, Embattle, been there bought the tshirt and read the book

for me it doesent work with the newer drivers, going off these posts it look like its something funny about my system .......

o yea, i hate 80Hz btw, i can see the damm thing redraw , personally the lowest refresh rate i can "stand" is 100Hz (limits me to 1100x on my monitor tho ) and the rail ect is far smoother at 140Hz (800x600) for some reason

Its not the end of the world, 6.50 works well for me, i ust cant resist sticking the new drivers on

i take it u mean me "seeing" the refreshes ?

persoanlly i dont find 85Hz flicker free, thats all, i get head aches when i use it, bang the rates above 100Hz and the head-aches go away. i work at a computer all day which does not help,



PS.

you can see the monitor refresh at 85Hz, please try this at home -

dont look directly at u monitor, look about 35 degrees away from it, so its ust visible in your periferal vision, there is a good change that you will see the refreshes

the cells which make up your periferal vision are far more sensitive thatn the main "sensors" in the eye, your main vission cant really see anything after arround 75Hz, but the periferal vision can see (that the right word ?) upto arround 120Hz.

needless to say this varries from person to person, but i have found my cutoff is arround 100Hz - i have never noticed a refresh when its set to 100 or above, but i could "see" 92Hz on my old matrox card

Fast mouse movements r what annoys me if the refresh rate is below 100. It looks awful unless u turn VSync on and then u lose fps anyway.

But it's all personal taste

what are the 10.5 drivers like dood?

I'm only using the 6.5 ones atm, but have had probs with things crashing and some games just looking plain funky :/

I ususally keep up with the drivers, but there seems to have been loads out recently, with new and old ones appearing like each day

As for refresh rate, i just stick mine on optimal, although some earlier beta ones made everything so flickery i got an instant headache :/

I was about to try 7.52 drivers to see if I can try UT with the DX8 dll. Can anyone reassure me that HzTool works fine with Win98 (standard), Det7.52 and DX8a ?

could you pls try it and see if the refresh is locked for you ?

OK. I'll give it a go when I get chance. Might have to rebuild Win98 again if it f00ks up tho
