Having wanted to upgrade for a while, I settled on an Athlon X2 4400 w/ 2gig ram and a good gfx card, was going to wait until February to buy this for the price drop mostly, so probably the new ATI card If I could keep the price within, say £1100-1300 (£1300 being the veryvery upper scale of my planned budget).

Then I spot this..."Verso" AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400 Dual Core 'San Diego' (Ten down). To me it looks fairly reasonably priced for the system spec, and best of all it matches my requirements pretty much on the dot. So question would be, shall I go ahead and buy this system, or wait until February as was my original plan...Fecking things, was all set for waiting too :(

Looks pretty nice, bear in mind it's a SFF pc, so you won't be able to upgrade it that much (probably no SLI or anything). It's got at 3 spare slots (for a possible soundcard upgrade, or the upcoming physics card).

The only thing that looks limited is your upgrading prospects.

By february not much will have changed apart from things being slightly cheaper (AMD's move to DDR2 and the new socket is after that).

Oddly enough it was SFF I was after, converted my current pc to a shuttle case some time ago and i'm sold! SFF loveliness. Heck, there shouldn't be any reason to upgrade any time soon with that spec anyhow.

Why does Christmas have to be so close for spendage on others :(

Talking about new comps. Bought my sis a new base unit. Hell it was advertised on Ebuyer for £199. 3 ghz processor - 80 gig Sata 7200 hard drive - Dual layer DVD player rewritable to CDs. 256 ram. Asus. No way I could have bought the bits for that amount. Tried it out today. Fantastic bit of kit but shit the hard drive sure is clacky. Could be I have been spoiled because my own drives are virtually silent seagate ones. Spoils the kit in my eyes. If you are going for expensive kit then make sure you pay attention to reviews and the amount of noise stuff makes - regardless of the performance. Not sure what make of hard drive is in this base unit:

The hard drive sounds like a bag of nails to me. Great for my sister though :) . The amount of noise her kids make she will never be aware of it.
