realm spies...

There are a lot of people that talk about realm spies on these boards, loads of finger pointing, screenshots of level 1 stealthers sitting a tele pads etc. In most cases I think it's guess work that has gone into "de-stealthing" these so called realm spies. Has any actually caught a realm spy? has anyone(besides wildfire) actually admitted to being a realm spy?

I think of some basic reasons why being a realm spy is possibly the most difficult class in the game. What are the odds that someone would be prepared to hang around the telepad with an extra account to pass information back to their "home" realm - preferred employer? Imagine the boredom involved. The same facts that are supposedly passed on by spies, can be easily deduced. I sincerely doubt that a person is willing to sit around someone's frontier keep for so many hours a day, passing information back to another realm.

I think these beings area myth, someone prove me wrong.

realm spies = myth
realms pies = sacred

Powerful pc - daox - two accounts (maybe three - in different realms ofc) = hey presto realm spy!

They could easily play their main char and leave the spy account running and checking every now and then so not hard for people to spy really. Just have to be really sad and have cash to burn ^^.

Why though? simple deduction can tell the same tale. Not theories mate, I am looking for proof. Most people would rather roll a buffbot, why go realm spy? Even your own mates would think you are sad.

I am shure of 1, strongly suspect another.

And a pretty suspicios one the lvl3 rogue that sat in hadrians ontop of MTK tower idling dont remember name now since i havent seen it for som weeks.

Doubt some1 afk who is lvling his lvl1-5 rogue would tele to hadrians go ontop tower and sit there idling 1 week+.

Not to long ago a intended relic attack on mid was spoiled cuz of very early warnings about hibs coming for relic.
6+fg mids greeted them at bledmeer.

I will not name the one i am shure of.

But it is not a myth, it is fact.

I know of a spoiled relic attack we made once where a very stoopid mid "in my grp" openly admited that his alb friend who sat on lan watched his screen.

I remember b4 1.48 when the keep related uber guards came to the picture.
we were 8+ fg mids going for alb relic, divided into 2 sub grps taking different paths.
for 2 reasons, 1 lagg 2. not to arrouse to much suspicion.
Keep was inhabited by twice our numbers b4 we got there, which i must say was a fast trip.

Why do you think the alliances today has info restricions, and importand info goes via alliances leaders.

Why do you think the "relic attack make believe attacks" take place?
if not to make spy info less interesting and to pacify defense interest.

Mostly because I am inclined to believe that people love conspiracy theories. That is still just your opinion, and I don't think it's proof. I ran my lvl5 luri champion out amg for a laugh, took ages for her to die.

Was it an alb idling on hadrians? Because then it's not really spying is it? IMO that would scouting.

Easy way to kill off spies would be to only allow one account per household. This would also kill off the buff bots as well. However knowing mythic 2 accounts = 2x money = 2 accounts is good.

That wouldn't really be fair mate, lots of husband an wife teams, or even family teams around.

This thread is about someone proving that there are realm spies.

Not anymore, I terminate your employment. Read your fooking contract, it specifically says keep it quiet.

Actually gunner, I will pay you to delete that icon you use...when I see it's vacant expression, suddenly the possibility of realmspies seems a true reality. We are good, they are evil, we are truth, they are lies...we have bombs, but they're friendly, nice bombs...

If you could care less then don't post, you make it sound like the thread is a whine. The question is whether anyone has proof of realm spies, or whether they are creatures of fable rather like Bigfoot or Nessie. It has nothing to do with whinging about them, or even dealing with them...it has to do with finding one.

I don't know about people having 2 pcs/daox and 2 accounts to spy, but I do know that more common is people playing in internet cafes with their mates passing on information. Happened just the other night with someone doing precisely that. Nothing you can do about it unfortunately, its here to stay. Im always wary what I tell someone who I know is playing alongside their mates.

It's indeed practically impossible to identify spies in DAoC, but there are a number of people that make very good candidates of course..

It's one of the reasons I'm against account trading, it's very easy to get a spy character in another realm that way. With any luck, the dumbass didn't even /gc quit from his guild so you get instead /as read access

Seems pretty lame if you can't expect your realm or whatever to be able to defend from relic attacks with normal scouting...

If you have to get a spy in their realm to 'win' then that's pretty laughable.

I'm positive there are realm spys, although I dont see what use they are to a realm as normal scouting almost always finds large scale armies anyway. Only benefit I could see is if someone (stealther probably best at this) is camping a mile gate and wants to pick off soloers or pairs porting over.

A long long time ago we had problems with a spy, there was screen shots of conversations etc with them admitting it to a confident etc. But it all blew over, never seen them since, done and dusted, but my point is they do exist, however what level of threat they pose is simply a matter of how much you let them know.
If you don't have idiots in your guilds yelling about relic raids on the portal pads and go through in conservative numbers then its just a normal rvr zerg.

I hate spies as much as the next person but fortunately unlike you I ain't a twat and try to make out its just the other realms.
Unlike you mids we don't use ours to tell us when the least ammount of hibs are online so we can do some lame 6am relic raiding.

Posted by a alb on the other thread ^^. Now I'm not too familiar with the code of conduct but he has admitted to realm spying going on and that he has witnessed it - isnt that cheating? If so shouldnt mythic lock/delete the accounts of those responsible?

Edit: btw here is the link to the thread where it was orignally posted

Its not hard to identify the fact that there are realm spies, when what you say on /as get's echoed on mirc public channels :(

I had a friar in Albion, I also pm'd Alpha but I never passed information back to Hibernia or used anything for personal gain. Lots of people have cross realm accounts, assuming that they automatically spy because of it is a bit harsh.

One way to prove they exist would be to gather a sizeable force at your local PK, then wait 30mins or so and see if people start appearing at enemy relic keeps.

I think the fact that it's possible to have a cross realm accounts, means there’s IS cross realm accounts. And with IRC etc. some information is bound to leak, even from people that didn't mean to... And yes some peeps will even use their other account for spying, it's a possibility and someone has taken advantage of that.. someone always do... That's a fact in a game as in IRL. Nothing remains just possibilities...

Though their impact on DAoC can be discussed.... If you take precautions, I think you can avoid them entirely.
