So, had a talk about it and seems it's quite widespread that people can't be arsed to do anything. Coupkle of friends also and it does seem the heat will do it.

Soon as it gets later in the evening, you're not as bored of things.

lol i've had 10 jobs in 8 years (current job for 3 1/2) having serveral jobs doesn't make you unreliable, it just means you're willing to take a shit job to begin with then trade up when the oportunity arises

i think it may be a very brittish thing, but unemployed people are the scum of the fucking earth, if the goverment need to recoup a load of cash start with making spongers do comunity service for thier handouts

imo anyone who say's they want a job but still don't have one doesn't really want a job

Well, aren't we just a closed minded bigot. I've worked since leaving school at 16 (I'm 37 this year), and this is the first time I've been without work. Doesn't mean I'm scum of the earth.

I've been contracting pretty much the last 11 years, so getting a permy job is fucking difficult, and with the contract market at the moment being so shit, usually you're up against 200 people instead of 20. Take your lack of intelligence elsewhere.

Hell, you make Bugz look like a level headed youngster.

Oh dear. How did I get blasted into this?

I never came in here being abusive, I came in offering advice. But what for it's worth I hold down a well paid job and I work from home. Can't get much better than that and I bet it is a lot better than what a lot of people my age had to endure themselves.

hmmm if you read all my posts i do say that temporary unemployment/ redundencies are different but then maybe if you put more effort into reading you'd be employed? who knows xD

So fuck you. Stop being a lazy ****, and get a job rather than look for one.

I dunno man, he might be a lazy shite but in south east england there's fuck all going , my gf finished uni studying lanuages and business (also worked throughout so has loads of sales/normal job experience) and it took her the best of 7 months to find work within 15 miles of kingston (where we live) and that was us both looking for her/applying to everything.. there's 300-500 people applying to every job vacancy around here it's madness

Getting a job honestly isn't as simple as "going out and looking for one".

I've probably sent close to over 2000 applications the last 2 years, I've had replies to less than a hundred, the unemployment rate for people of my age with my experience is 45% in Sweden.

It's got nothing to do with personal drive, it's got all to do with not having the person handling the applications throwing them in the bin in favour of in-house recruitment. This isn't even mentioning the growing trend of job ads asking for "employed people only" because the unemployed are clearly not motivated enough to have a job.

But who knows maybe I'm just an utter failure of a humanbeing, it certainly feels like it sometimes.

edit: to stay on topic; read books, shit like the wheel of time will keep you occupied for months.

That level of boredom where you want to do something and yet cba to do it is a horrible catch-22 scenario. Personal suggestions:

Reading is ofc good (that's Reading, not Reading in England, that's a shithole(!)). Maybe:

Wheel of Time series - Jordan is good and will take you a while
Anything by Tom Holt - always makes me smile
Orcs set by Stan Nicholls, 'bad' guy viewpoint is refreshing
Shorter books you can pick up and drop - over here we have 'Is everything Shit of is it just me?' series, must have something similar in your place across the pond.

Consider coding stuff as addons for games you've played? Nice to contribute in those areas.

Get hold of all those songs you like and never bothered d/ling (legally ofc, ahem.)

Your own project - for me it's a book-based RPG, many years in the dev and playtesting by friends.

Oh and ofc watch the Big Bang Theory back to back :D

Hehe, there are some good jobs to be had in Reading. It might not be the nicest place on the planet but there are a lot of technology companies there.
