What the hell is so unethical and wrong about that?

Except that it's another reality TV cash making machine, but we all know how people feel about those anyway.

Something like running man would be cool though.

Yes it has gone WAY too far!

In Australia there is currently a woman inside The Big Brother House who doesn't know that her father has died while she has been inside the house and the producers won't tell her till she gets out! Fucking inhumane bastards! She wasn't even at the memorial to say her final goodbye to her dad who died of cancer!

Conviniently left out all the stuff from the other thread, like that her father told them not to tell, that the family knew she might not make it to the funeral, or that she might not have known of the cancer at all.

WTF.

have i gone back in time or did we not all read and comment in the other thread already?

Went forward in time to get this quote to say...aye.

So you think it's ok that they don't tell her Mr. Seel?

btw she knew about the cancer

Yup. Quite ok.

Since like i said on the other thread, it's the dying persons wish that counts, not if someone wants/doesn't want to know. And the guy (apparently)said "don't tell her" so...that's it.

When regarding a persons death there is no "person should be told!" if the person kicking the bucket doesn't want it to be told.

Quote from the other thread and from the newssite: "According to family members, Emma’s father requested on his deathbed that his daughter not be told until she leaves the Big Brother house, so that it would not affect her experience. "

Ergo, dying wish, don't tell.

this win a kidney show really does make me feel queezy tbh. the whole point of the show is deciding who deserves to live and the losers will die, i mean actually die not like the losers of egular BB where they just get a few days of fame then slide in to obscurity, these people die.

they are literally competing for their lives, to me i find that obscene. It is a situation like the running man, people at home are going to be voting for whoever they think should win and when the winner is announced the other 2 contestants are in effect given death penalties and there will be people at home saying "that person didnt deserve to win" i.e. they dont deserve to live.

Its a whole different kettle of fish from who deserves to win £10 000 or a yaught or a holiday to vegas, its their lives.

the BB makers say they are making this show to highlight the desperate need for more organ doners and its not a publicity stunt its to raise awareness of a serious medical crisis...i would be very interested to know how deeply they feel about this, will all the profits made from this show go to organ donation funds?

i think not.

whats wrong with that though. if thats the only 2 kidneys knocking about then i think its fair that the woman can have a say in who deserves them most. sure she isnt god or w/e but i dont see a problem letting her choose. if they are gonna die anyway why not make a show out of it?

i have no morals btw.

Well, technically if they don't do this show, they probably kill three people.

They'd die anyway, if not getting donors from elsewhere, and if they can get donors elsewhere, it don't matter if they don't win the TV kidney.

So them peeps be kicking the bucket someway anyway.

if they are gonna die anyway why not make a show out of it?

Exactly, and this way, the families of those who would die would get publicity and perhaps help in their time of need, the peeps dying would get near immortality(fame wise) and after the show airs, they could get plenty of volunteers around the world to save them.

im just thinking how i would feel if i was told i could wait on a list for probably 10 years and possibly die while waiting or i could go on a tv show where i would be judged by an audience and if they thought my personality was the best i would get to live, id have to compete against 3 other people though... oh and knowing the BB producers probably have to do degrading/humiliating things , basically become a performing poodle.

it reminds me of the premis for SAW, just how far would you be willing to go to stay alive? and tbh i really don't feel comfortable with the idea of people having to "entertain" while seriously ill in order to be allowed to live.

meh maybe it is just me though, i mean who cares what happens to other people, lets bring back public stoning and hanging we could televise that "hay if you can run fast enough you wont be ripped to pieces by wild dogs" or have a show where you put a teacher a nurse and a charity worker in a hot air balloon and vote who gets pushed out, its all the same thing.

the show doesnt decide ultimatley if some mofo pops his clogs. it simply to choose who gets a kidney at that moment in time, while they are probably also on a waiting list.

Aye, they still have a chance on the waiting list, this is an EXTRA chance.

Also, it's not the audience that does it.

The woman decides, and from what i read, she's basing her decicion on talking to family and friends and by getting to know the people.

Not by "who can run with a pile of sh*t in their pants for longest!"

I don't believe anybody dies if they don't get a kidney. They just have to continue getting kidney dialysis, or am I just messing up medical techniques here?

That being said, I don't like the concept because I don't like favouritism in healthcare. I think it shouldn't be allowed for someone to decide who their organ(s) go to. I believe an anonymous selection procedure by certified doctors is the fairest way to do it. Although I can understand that one would want to know who their organ(s) go to after they die, I just don't think it's fair to let them decide.

Its just trash TV designed to appeal to consumers and sell advertising space. All under the pretence of "we would like to highlight the shortage of kidney donors" or some such shit. Its from the same makers as big brother, kings of trash TV, so what do you expect? surprised they don't have a phone in vote voiced by a fake geordie too :p

I think it shouldn't be allowed for someone to decide who their organ(s) go to.

But what if someone you love needs a kidney and you can provide it but you aren't allowed to give it to that person because the law would prevent you from doing that?
I mean I am all against favouritism in healthcare but it's still your own body and I think you should be able to atleast have a say in where your organ(s) or body go when you die.

if you plant them there yourself, sure... but sadly the doctors do it so there should be no favortism...

Before this show I would've probably said the same thing. Not being allowed to sell your organ(s) should be enough to strike a natural balance, considering only the few people in the situation you described would practise favouritism. However, that would still allow a show like this (and similar things on a smaller scale), even though the intention was only to cover the situations as you described.

Perhaps a solution could be to give priority to family members. It would be better than all impartiality, but it would still suck for people who have a close friend in need of an organ. (Giving away a kidney while being alive is another thing. Here I agree that one should have a say in what happens to one's kidney - on condition she doesn't sell it -, if only to minimise regrets when she needs a kidney herself later in life.)

Well my only concern is how they got hold of the kidney..

1. Butchered someone
2. Payed someone (so if you got more money than someone who need a kidney just as much as you, then you can just outbid him)

But otherwise i think its 'ok', not that i would watch the show (tv sucks anyways), but if you really want to degrade yourself like that (by watching the show), you should go ahead. At least it brings up the donation discussion.

It was a snipe at the "they're gonna kill two other people" thing. Ok? Ok.

This one:
and when the winner is announced the other 2 contestants are in effect given death penalties
