I've gotten to lvl 25 with my reaver, my first toon ever in DAOC, solely with PvE. I've avoided anything else because I am clueless about it so here are some of my questions

--what is the difference between the battlegrounds and RvR if any and with New Frontiers?
-- Are battlegrounds connected geographically to the rest of the "world" or are they isolated somewhere in limbo, which is why I have to port to them?

-- Do I earn XP in battlegrounds? money?

--what are realm points and what are MLs? Master Levels?

--Can I earn Realm Points before i reach level 50 with regular XP?

Is there any point to me trying RvR before i hit lvl 50 or will i just have my butt handed to me?

so many questions, so little time

Thanks in advance!

lo m8,

1: Battlegrounds are restricted to certain levels like bg1 is 20-24 which 'normal' rvr isn't. So it's good to start in battlegrounds to get a hang of how things work in normal rvr.

2: They're isolated somewhere in limbo as u put it atleast to my knowledge. There's atleast no way to enter a bg without porting.

3: Yes, you earn both XP and some cash in bgs but it aint much tbh.

4: You get realmpoints for killing enemy players and when rezzing etc. RPS will give u realm ranks which will give u RSP (realm stat points) or whatever u can call them, which u can use to get RAs (realm abilities) to further improve your character. MLs is in TOA and you can read about it on www.visionofsages.net/toa.

5: No.

6: Yes, in battlegrounds. Of course you can go into the frontiers and do somewhat ok at around 45+ but it's still hard when you're not 50

"what is the difference between the battlegrounds and RvR if any and with New Frontiers? "

battlegrounds are rvr areas for set levels ie 20 to 24, 25 to 30 etc.
rvr is any level vs any lvl, but generally is lvl 50.
new frontiers is the new rvr expansion.

"Are battlegrounds connected geographically to the rest of the "world" or are they isolated somewhere in limbo, which is why I have to port to them? "

yep, they are separate.

"Do I earn XP in battlegrounds? money? "

xp, yes a little, money, can't remember off-hand, i think not.

"what are realm points and what are MLs? Master Levels? "

you earn realm points by killing other players from different realms. there are 10 realm ranks each with 10 levels in them. each level you gain (by getting mpre realm points) you get 1 realm ability point to spend. what you can spend them on is here: http://www.ping.de/~sven/daoc/configurator.html

master levels are the quests that you do in the trials of atlantis expansion. again there are 10 master levels, each with 10 steps (except ml 10), more info here: http://www.visionofsages.net/toa/

"Can I earn Realm Points before i reach level 50 with regular XP?"

yes, you can earn rps before 50.

"Is there any point to me trying RvR before i hit lvl 50 or will i just have my butt handed to me?"

i would suggest that you stick to the battle grounds for a bit.

Hope this helps a little. :)

if your are level 25 the battleground for you will be 25-29, Murdaigean(sp?) or something...

i am unsure of what it's like on Iseult but over here that battleground is dead - nobody goes there..

like i said, it may be different on iseult...

rvr is a great part of the game :) good luck getting to 50 :)

The mostly used battleground is Thidranki (lvl 20-24 one) and Caledonia (lvl 30-35). I think that Murdaigean is deserted in all servers but not sure about that, maybe the French and German people will play on these battegrounds but on Excal and Prydwen they are both empty. You can't earn realm points by xp'ing, you need to kill other realms players for that.

Here's a list of the Realm Ranks with how much RPs you need to get to each Realm Rank and also how many RSPs you will have (in total, not new) on every Realm Rank...

One thing about the battlegrounds that hasn't been mentioned here. They're not only restricted to certain levels, but also to certain Realm Ranks. In Thidranki (lvl 20-24) the Realm Rank cap is 1L4, ie you can't go back to Thidranki if you have 350 RPs or more, even if you're level 21. I don't remember the Realm Point caps for the other bgs though.

Edit: Nerf forgetting to put in the URL for the list.. LOL...

If you truely play on iseult, that means you could just level by RvRing in the battlegrounds.

Since Isuelt has New Frontiers, and 8x Experience reward (of what we're getting till we're in NF), you should seriously give the Battlegrounds a shot :)
