Ranger spec?

Depends on if you wanna have decent stealth or not.

One low stealth spec could be this:

Bow 39
Pierce/Blades 39
Pathfinding 46
CD 21
Stealth 14

Should be a good allround spec but with low stealth though. Might be very hard to do any soloing. If you depend on grouping all the time in RvR this is a good one i think.

Another spec I would recommend is this:

Bow 39
Pierce/blades 39
Pathfinding 40
Stealth 30
CD 16

A little lower pathfinding and CD, but a boost in stealth. This is very similar to my spec.

Others might have different opinions on how to spec a ranger, so let's see some more ranger templates here :)

The plan for my ranger was a melee type thingy with moderate stealth and mid bow, something like

19 Stealth
46 Pathfinding (last damage add ^^)
35 Bow
39 Pierce
22 Celtic Dual (gives a good 36% chance for cd)

With meh thid plan put as

9 Stealth
18 pierce
21 Pathfinding
15 Bow
6 cd

Probably gonna stick to it for now though, haven't seen any others that stand out :)

Hmm well my spec was going to be something like:

Bow: 47

Stealth :46

PF: 31

Pierce: 20

CD: 6

Prolly this makes no sense at all and is gimped to hell but sod it :)

I'm aiming for:
Stealth - 36
Pierce - 25 (Someones got to use those pierce drops)
Path- 40
Bow - 46
CD - 13

As stealth get's no point specific abilites you can raise it with drops w/o losing anything

As for the rest I need to kill things before they get to me hence high bow & path.

If you want to be serious about CD go play a BM, not sure if they are as still as gimped as us or not ;).

Working for me at the mo. I always die to assassins anyway so why bother speccing blades just to hurt them a bit lol.

my endtemplate is this

stealth 29
Celtic Dual 29
Recurve Bow 36
Blades 39
Pathfinding 36
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
with spellcrafting and (RR5)

stealth 39(+4)
Celtic Dual 39(+4)
Recurve Bow 46(+4)
Blades 50(+4)
Pathfinding 36(+4)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Stealth at 43 is ok
CD at 43 gives about 50% chanse to offhandhit
Bow at 50 is all that is needed (overspeccing in bow give very little benefit)
Blades 54 is nice though 50 is enough
Pathfinding at 36 gives a nice damageadd which combined with fast weapons rips a lot apart fast.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Generally it is very hard to gimp a ranger, there are a few rules I follow though.

Try not to specc bow over 50 in total, speccing bow to 47 in base is madness since we have spellcrafting incoming and easily can raise it to 50 from 39 with RR's and some gear.

Make sure you have at least 36 in PF for that 2nd best damageadd if you ever want to melee something, it makes a large difference and PF is pretty classdefining for Rangers imho.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
One word about my template though, I am pretty gimped until we get 1.54, with the gear I want he will start to shine, but I am a patient man.

you guys got low bows im gonna max bow damage with something like this.

stealth:25 plus im gonna be on high lookout for plus stealths
Blades:35
path:35
bow:50
cd:15

Stealth:25
blades:40
path:34
bow:45
cd:18

or maybe even lower bow

ok I repeat, there is VERY little benefit to overspecc bow guys. You gain very little from speccing 45 at base.

I go very low with my 36 because I plan to spend a lot of time on my char so rr4 shouldnt be too much of a problem, hence I will have +3 from that. Spellcrafting allows you to put in a maximum of +8 in recurve bow in a MP-bow. Hence, I only need +3 more and our lvl47epic gives a jewel with just that, +3 in recurve bow. Voila 36+3+8+3=50. (I was even considering to go 35 in bow and wait until rr5 to have 50 in bow, but decided to build my template on rr4)

This has been tested over and over again, speccing over 50 gives little more damage, considering its a lot of points I can use elsewhere I choose to aim for 50 and stay there with bonuses.

Going over 39 is nuts imo, it aint worth it, spend it on stealth or more melee is my advise. If you are unpatient and dont give a shit about spellcrafted items, ok, then I can understand a baseskill over 39. I just want to squeese out everything I can out of a template :D

FYI: Rangers epic gloves has a +3 to bow which with the epic jewel adds up to a total of +6, and dont forget realmranks.

I was 50+10 bow before respec. I now have 39+11 and I must say I really don't notice any big difference in damage. Ok, damage cap is a little lower, but overall, just like Shike said, there's little benefit speccing bow over 40 for us rangers. Better to boost those melee/pathfinding/stealth skills instead.

If you are going to spend most of your time grouped and not solo drop stealth. I have gone

39 Bow
39 Pierce
46 Pathfinding
25 Celtic Dual
5 Stealth

I also have First Aid 2 and Ignore Pain.

Its nice so far and I havent missed stealth since I respecced one little bit.

I am very tempted by:

39 Blades
39 Bow
40 Pathfinding
30 Stealth
16 Celtic Duel

That leaves me with only 3 leftover points.

Second choice is:

39 Blades
39 Bow
46 Pathfinding
20 Stealth
15 CD

Depending on how important that Damage Add really is versus the lower stealth.

But then again, I'm not sure if my Ranger will ever get older than Thidranki :)

And in Thidranki I am planning to have:

17 Blades
24 Bow
15 Path
5 Stealth

That will have to do. Just my insignificant opinion though, after I just got my celt to level 5 on Stonehenge.

This is exactly how I'm specced although I'm pierce instead of blades, and I'm very happy with it. :)
40 path is nice with the extra boost in dex/quick. I like to be able to solo and not depend on druid buffs.

IMO 39 bow isn't worth it, I have 37 and am tempted to drop down to 27. At 37 bow I can crit shot (and do quite often) for 1002dmg. Dropping to 27 bow would only drop that crit shot to about 950, probably not even that, closer to 970 afaik. As you can see, speccing bow past 27 really is somewhat of a waste of spec points. Those points could be much better used getting the 46 spec 9dps pathfinding damage add, or pumped into celtic dual (See my template Malev posted, drop bow to 27 and up CD to 35 and stealth to 33 I think it was and that's how I could be tempted to respec).

The discussion of blades vs peirce all depends what you fight really I guess. Going peirce you'll have negatives against all stealthers except minstrels. Going blades you'll get bonuses on SBs, Hunters and Neutral on Infs, Minstrels and Scouts. There's the argument for stuff like DiamondBack 6s stun, which unfortunately is more like 3s in practice - no idea why but personally I went blades because I was happier to trade higher damage output for styles, fact is I rip up stuff in melee I get negatives to without even noticing the negatives.

Xest.

Well damage cap is one thing, variance is another. :)

Variance isn't a problem with low bow spec either, it's so easy to hit 300 dex as a ranger that I guess that pretty much tightens it enough. I have about a 75% chance of hitting my cap (minus resists) with 336 dex and 37 bow spec on lvl50s, and what seems like a 95% chance on lvl49s and below. If I use the right arrow time you can pretty much guarantee I'll cap at a 1002dmg crit shot on a lvl49.

Hitting 300+ dex require druid/bard buffs though, Xest. Alot of rangers including myself can't depend on being buffed up by a druid all the time. With selfbuffs and capped with items my dex lands at 264. I would not drop bow to 27, cause it would gimp my damage. I'm high melee specced, but still, bow is my main choice of weapon.

One more thing to think about, what if mythic decides to put in bow styles in the future!? :) (not very likely but still hoping for that)

if they did all archer classes would get a respec as it's a major change to their abilitites...

bow aint all that good,

1. leveling is a bitch coz high bow, low melee sucks in groups when you kill purples.

2. rvr pulsing bladeturn, pet users, sheild tanks are very hard to kill

3. your meet a infil,sb all the time so bow is a bit useless.

heeey dont come here and diss my bow that fumbles and misses a lot, i have actually started to love my bow after some oneshotkills lately. Whenever i am pissed over something, I go emain/amg, looks after a bluecon caster and whack away 2 crits, if 1st miss naturally or due to a BT, 2nd shot mostly kill´s, and that actually is a lovely feeling... except when I miss or fumble ofc. ;)

Blades: 39
Recurve Bow: 38
Stealth: 34

Celtic Dual: 21

Cap your hits, con, str and melee resists and you rock :) <not me, cant get more then 8% slash and 10% thrust resist doh>

btw Dori's spec is not poss without autotraining, you get to stealth 33 with 5pts left over.

My spec is:

Blades: 39
Recurve Bow: 38
Stealth: 24
Pathfinding: 36
Celtic Dual: 31

And I am quite happy with it but if I had a respec I think it it be:

Blades: 39
Recurve Bow: 34
Stealth: 33
Pathfinding: 36
Celtic Dual: 27

With 4 points left over.

I didn't plan on any stealth at the start, but it is still a very useful skill to have. Moving at 24+6 stealth is a little boring :)
