RANGER spec (ur input plz)

ok i started lvling a ranger from lvl 1 (going to autotrain him full so ill get +12 bow at end)
Shar ranger wirg 10 str/10con/10dex in creation
no BB so will be dependant from pathfinding line


I wanted balanced spec so i can melee/shoot as well so i looking at:
1) Bow: no more but no less than 35 bow (should be enough from what i understand)
2) Stealth: 30-35 max (more is overkill)
3) CD: less is 18(side stun) -> 29 (desired for side chain)
4) Pierce: (got him weapons rd and hot waiting/dont want blades as ill get stun from evade and with CD and side stun) no less then 34 / the best is 39 but donno
5) Pathfinding: 36 for dmg add/ or 40 for second to last dex/quik


was playing a bit with char builder with those in mind and came with following results:

Got a RR5 Ranger on US, and I've played with a few specs, although I had a BB available. IMO, you should get in a stealther guild and rely on others for buffs at 50, otherwise im afraid you'll be pretty much useless in melee. Going full bow and high path and camping towers wouldn't be too bad tho.

35 Bow will be fine really, if thats what you want
36 Stealth should be minimum, cause you'll be max of RR3 when entering big boy rvr

Rest of the spec is up to you, but if going high path just go 18CD for the side stun and higher mainhand, cause too low and you wont hit anything in melee

FYI my ranger is RR5 atm (retired) and fully twinked

bb? my GF's ranger does well even without bases only with self buffz+stardrop (almost RR5) and killed quite few infis/Sbs in melee

from what i saw from my GF ranger dmg with bow (she was 40 bow and resped to 35) not a big difference so wont go higher that this

36 stealth? aint it too much??? (some MOS actually 2/3 will be enough me think to help with low stealth)

and i dont want high bow as from what i was watching other stealth classes r more the problem than visuals so need decent melee...

MoS does nothing for improving your own stealth tho, it just helps you spot enemies easier who probably have spotted you first unless they haven't got 50 moderated stealth either.

I would do something like:

35 bow

rest cd, tops around the 30'ish I think.
You won't quite reach a combined 50 weapon but your bow should make up for you lack in melee, could lower stealth a bit and raise pierc. However reaching RR5 or so everything should be fine and you could lower stealth/pierc and raise cd.

No bb and levelling a ranger is a tough slog (though cata helps loads)
most go high CD as pierce has v poor damage growth rates.

stealth 48-50 and when camo is up your tough to spot (negates others mos i believe?)

35 bow, allows some ranged fun, first rapid fire

Used to be 35 bow, 32 stealth, 39 blades, 29 CD, 36 path, the spec was solid and fun, but my bow points were wasted, i never found the points invested into bow worthwhile, not as a celt with a melee specced template. I recently changed to 50cd, 35 stealth, 36 blades, 27 path, 12 bow after speaking to Galid, and my DPS has increased alot, it's a much more fun spec.

Unless your going 45-50 bow i personally cant see the point of investing a semi decent amount of points into bow, the returns from specccing 35 bow just aren't enough imho.

35 bow is best imo in terms of overal character performance.

Removing bow is hardcore. but once you start going melee you get addicted to your damage output.

I found 35 bow almost useless, it hardly affected visuals, i was always more confident attacking from melee than range which shows how the bow line has taken a beating since NF/ToA apart from if you want to hump towers.

still w/o a bb but after rr5 i was 40 pf, 35 bow, 39 pierce, 19 cd, 33 stealth

now i am 31 pf, 35 bow, 44 pierce, 24 cd, 33 stealth

tbh, if u don't have ip2 + purge2 + fz , u can't fare well as a melee ranger so it's best to rely on bow to deal some damage and lets be honest... the miss rate on bow shots at 35+11+ rr3-4 is way worse than 45+11+ rr3-4 and i mean WAY worse, esp if u are not using a bb...
even at rr6+ with 35+11+5 bow skill, i had some horrible miss streaks (4 consecutive misses, including the critshot, versus some alb caster)

imo get a spec with 40-45 bow for the start and respec later to 35 bow

ok this is how i see it:

i played with (RR4L7 luri ranger so far with spec: 40PF 33stealth 39 pierce 35 bow and 22 / CD ml4 sojo with only self buffz): miss rate with 35 bow almost none, dmg normal shots round 200-300 plus with fools bow and i got quite a few RR3-6 infis/sbs/minstrels/hunters/scouts in fight 1 on 1 (most of them where botted/pd3 + daimondback ftw)

im leveling ranger mostly to duo with my GF's ranger from time to time (ok warden si fun to solo but sometimes too many jumping over ur body or no 1 to solo (nerf u albz) and i preffer to play in groups with him mostly

i just wanted to get like 40path at first (like mymy gf's ranger i pleyed that goes to 408 dex eith base dex and path dex/quik+stardrop and 222 quik as luri)as im a Shar with low dex and quik but i think ill try 31 pf at first (mostly wanted 36 for better dmg add
so counting on this with some +dex cap items and some aug dex i should hit with self buffz and lets say base dex something like 320-340 dex and round 170-200 quik (if get cap quik as well) and i should have something like 1.5k hits if i put some +hits cap in template (90 starting con roxor)

Lower cd 1 or 2 points so you can get 39 pierc =) just a soft point

Black widow is a waste of end really. Growth rates are nothing special, and without buffs you're not expected to get the required WS to get 3 moves on an evade 7 opponent. You're better off spamming bubble. (also the haste debuff is 15%)

Like always, it all comes down to playstyle. Melee is melee and then again debatable if you want to go high pf for dmg add or high CD (there is an old discussion about that at critshot actually).

Do whatever makes you happy, even 50 bow works.
