Pfff… so many threads about rangers, here is my prediction on how things are going to go after a couple of patches.
First of all, how is it like to be a stealther? Please do contribute your experiences as well, but what I found out since February 2004 (yes, I don’t play since beta, nor since release) is the following:
Patience is a virtue. That applies not only when it comes to levelling, but also when it comes to hunting. I had learned the old alb frontiers by heart, as emain was always zerged and odin’s became one of the same, tho I did managed to catch it up before the zerg moved there, when one could actually run almost till nott unstealthed.
Countless hours in order to get some xp-ers out there, same amount of hours camping sauvage and svasud in order to get a handful of rps. The rewards were not that high, but the thrill was there everytime I was encountering someone.
Now, most rangers, including me some times, just go to keeps and towers, they spam a button and get rps (kind of like sorcerers but a bit different). However, teleport, and zerging will eventually fade away, call it either that the initial hype will just go, or that the incoming patches will make it so that travelling will require a bit longer, hence the zerg and the adds will diminish. What then?
I didn’t manage play as much as I’d like to in the days following NF, but I found out the following. NF geography matters a LOT. There are amazing camp-spots all over the frontier areas, easily identifiable by someone looking out for them. However, what one needs to find them is the virtue I mentioned above.
So my prediction is that after the zerg goes away, there’ll be a filtering out of the rangers who do enjoy their characters and really pay attention to their play-style, with the FOTM ones (don’t take that as PLd ones) that are in to it just to leech RPs.
Too bored to write more, contribute, flame, do whatever!
