Ive just put in some new ram and I think it might be faulty, Does anyone know of any software that can test it under win XP? (AMD cpu , 1 gig of DDR400)

Try using this:

http://hcidesign.com/memtest/download.html

What i did was download the software above then copied it onto a cd.After that i changed the settings in bios so it booted up from cd drive and then restarted so it loaded up memtest. Then you leave it running for a while, preferably a few hours or more so perhaps when you go to bed.

There's a manual on the website if you are still unsure how to use it.

you are correct to suspect the RAM especially if it is just standard DDR400 RAM modules. AMD 64's + some Mobos are very picky when it comes to specs of the RAM they need.

This is an old article which pointed out the problems with some chipsets that are still being used today NForce 2 & 3 chipsets.

I was having issues with Kingston Valueram. Had to ditch it in the end and get some Geil fast paired RAM. Basically get the best you can afford. Most of the gaming RAM is good enough and no longer costs the 200 GBP they were asking for it a year ago.

Good luck.
