Racist, Homophobic and offensive language on this server

Now this is a cross post and I apologise , but I feel this is a real serious subject. With increasing frequency I am seeing foul and abusive behaviour on this server. I personally am not offended by it, but I am an adult and also used to communicating via the net.

In a nutshell, this is the internet.

Different people have different views on what is exceptable, they all have different barriers between what is a acceptable and what isnt.

I certainly belive that the attitude of some people on this game should not be tolerated and u should report any instance where your children are exposed to talk like this, before they too begin to think it is acceptable.

Children play this game, and children are impressionable, I for one do not talk on this game, like I talk to my friends in RL. Why? because I understand my friends barriers and how far I can go, on the net u know little of people really.

It costs nothing to be polite and curteous but may well cost one person out of 100 the ability to communicate effectively with people they dont know, if u guys teach them at a young impressionable age to swear and abuse each other.

I for one would smack any of my mates full on on the nose if they called me a C*nt

Well said. The anonominity of the internet is it's greatest strength and attraction but also it's greatest weakness. No matter how well you think you know someone in DaoC one day we're all going to go our seperate ways and never hear from each over near again. This is what makes people who a perfectly polite in real life, to act as they do on the internet. (e.g. Mr.Fin's NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOBBBBBBBBS thread)

Since the game, and the internet are not policed, behavour s something thats up to individual people.

i agree the language used against other people on the forums or ingame are disgusting at times i know people tell there m8s to FO or come out with a sexist remark to a guildie but in a way not to offend its a friendly jibe you say there are children playing this game and are easily impresionable well im afraid thats the majority of the time it is those same children who come out with this stuff which is a shame kinda says summat about todays society.
go play counter-strike for an hour cplcarrot daoc is quite tame compared to that

the only circumstance where abusive language is acceptable in the game (imo) is in sends with people you know will not be offended by it. Saying it in main chat is simply unacceptable. God forbid someone has their son or daughter sitting on their lap while playing. (kids can get a kick out this too) and then some idot spouts off at the mouth saying XXXX is gay and a cunt ect... Could you imagin haveing to explain some of the stupid rude things said in main chat to your own children? The problem is not the rude language people use, it's the lack of common sence and courtisy shopwn to others when they use it. I for one couldn't care less if you call your friends a cunt, but I sure as hell don't want to have to explain it to my children when you can't keep it to yourself or in sends.

Boy, do you have the wrong game.

People are themself closest, they don't care much about other in this game because it is over the internet, and the annomynity(sp?) of the internet hides the fact that they might not say these words irl but find it sort of fun to say them ingame.
Some repressed behavioural issues maybe I don't know.

I find it extreemly annoying pepole running around yelling stfu, FU, or many obseen words when they dissagree with something (or at other times), but on the other hand I find it quite fun because it really displayes these peoples inability to communitcate and their immaturity.

I just picture these people at their first grown up job-interview when they hopefully have lost all means of real communitcation.

I have rarely experienced abusive behaviour in DAOC.
But I believe it is not specific to DAOC..

Besides which, all I did to deal with the problem was put the offender on Ignore..Easy....


Besides which, the Internet was not and is not designed for Children.
If you allow your children to use the Internet unsupervised, then you and they must accept the consequences.

Thats what this post is about, but if u dont care who you offend thats your choice , I cant help but feel disappointed that u care little for other peoples feelings for the sake of not taking the time to deliberatly voice this views which are deeply hurtful to at least 10% of the worlds population
