I think theres a point here tbh - basically our legislation creates a specially protected status for certain races so it in itself perpetuates differences on racial lines and where you have groups being treated differently you'll get resentment and conflict - its self-perpetuating.

Exactly what I've been trying to say, only so much more eloquently put :D

Does saying this make me racist?

No it fucking doesnt.

Notice our beloved (well in Wills case anyway) lefty chums starting a debate
then backing off as soon as they realise it's untenable.

Theres only one thing worse than being a white European, and thats being a male white european.

We are told to be ashamed of everything our country has ever done, often fostered by the Americans in Hollywood. Yet we stopped slavery many years before they did, and stopped American slave ships for many years freeing the captives at the nearest port. Unfortunately a lot of the surviving captives were then sold back into slavery. By black slavers by the way.

Tell you what. Im NOT ashamed of our country , Im bloody proud of it.

Sorry.

A lot of the most problematic ideas on race come from the US - it is a fucked up country on race issues - its far more ghetto'ised and downright racist than the UK so maybe it does need a different set of tools like positive discrimination (though i still hate positive discrimination because its basically saying 'we are going to discriminate but because its against whites its ok').

But the UK is by and large not a racist country - if anything our balance is more pro ethnic minorities hence the lowest achieving kids now being white working class kids.

It saddens me to see divisive ideas like MOBO etc. coming over - division is bad for society but in the US they seem to welcome it...

This is a can of worms I didn't really want to open any further, especially when I'm about to go to bed...

But anyway...why do you see race discrimination laws as different to sex discrimination laws?

There is a unspoken policy by some Americans in government (read: media, its the same thing) to denigrate our country whenever they can.

Ive read a lot of history stuff and firmly believe this started before WW2 and , it appears, continues to this day.

What can you do? Fuck all, most people even in our country are so stupid they believe anything they read or see anyway.

I didnt think I did.

The beloved in Wills case remark refers to my respect for your opinions, rather than your retreat from conversation by the way :)

No need to be sorry. I'm proud of my country too.

I'm not proud when I have to sit there and listen to some inbred wankers screaming abuse at a guy just because he's black though. And it was screaming - not just 'mildly raised voices'. Full on screaming.
