I did a job the other night, I won't say where or what but it was a sporting venue, a white guy vs a black guy. Actually it was a bloke vs another bloke, but I have to mention their colours because of the attitude of some of the audience.

I've never heard people be so unafraid to call someone a "fucking black bastard" - and other things. This went on through the entire event, and the management did nothing about it. Theres a lot of shouting so its possible that the venue didn't notice it - but I doubt it.

Now I was working so I couldn't get involved, I merely removed myself from their vicinity, but even now I can't stop thinking about it and wondering how the subjects of such abuse can deal with it.

Don't ask me what sport it was or where it was because I won't say (it involves work and strictly speaking its none of my business).

I'm only posting this to hear other people's opinions and experiences on the matter, because even 24 hours after the event I'm still really pissed off by it. I genuinely hope they have an epiphany, or that the rest of their miserable lives are SHIT.

By the way, the black guy won, which shut them up.

It depends on who you are with

Ive got loads of mates from different places and countries and calling eachother by certain names which are normally deamed as racist is common place. Its actually pretty funny for us all.

I wouldnt do it to someone i didnt know in an angry sense though.

What you described sounded like a chess match to me...

Why are you being a pussy about the whole don't ask me shit. It's not like anyone outside of here is going to care.

Anyway, my guess is that it was boxing. Maybe a light welterweight commonwealth title defence. Maybe Olusegun vs Wright in County Durham. A big African man from London is going to stick out a bit out there, especially if he's punching a local in the head.

The commentators mentioned that he was getting a bit of stick, which is understandable because it was Wright's home crowd.

I think you've answered your own question. The irony is, the same knuckledraggers would cheer one of their "own" black guys to the rafters. I'm surprised you're so shocked tbh.

Racism always has been a problem, and always continue to be a problem; even amongst the most clever upper class citizens (infact they can be worse; Prince Phillip?).

I don't know what you're shocked Tom.

its more understandable in older people tho, it was acceptable back then, and they were born into it.

its people perpetuating it in their children that need culling :puke:

Rasicm is also in your genes, so even those who say "i'm not at all racist", are.

It's the basic "outsider, not from my tribe, treat with caution" gene at work.

Some repress it better, some less, but with adrenaline flowing, anyone can call anyone anything and not even notice.

Yes but it doesnt need skin colour to bring it out - all communities tend to view outsiders poorly - skin colour differences just make it more immediate.

Try going to a Catholic community in NI and speaking with an english accent...

Aye, it's not skindeep. Racism goes to the bone baby!

But joking aside, you are right, the skincolor just makes it easier for the brain to pick outsiders out of a crowd. Also effects the level of comfort that you start to find out if the guy is enemy or not.

Ever notice that when you see a black man walking, you react with a bit of "ooh black man"(not to be taken literal), but when you see a black woman, you don't react as strongly? That's 'cause women ain't a threat in the machogene we have.

Genes. Fun.

Heh - yes - I think the 'Can I shag it?' filter applies before the 'Is it an enemy?' one :)

Its stupid really, the thing is thats blatent racism.

But EVERYTHING a white guy says is racist now days, sorry but its true.

Political correctness, but alot of black guys actually find the "racist" jokes hilarious themselves aswell.

I'll make jokes but i'd never h8 m8s.

I thought what the Arch Bishop of Canterbury said though was bloody fantastic. (sarcasm off)

What a old fluffball.

Aye, even if an outsider isn't your first "bojoing" poker, it does help leviate(sp?) the "danger" aspect and as such, if your community runs out of females, you can go out and get a back-up woman.

I work with vulnerable adults and young offenders. Recently I was a guest speaker at a communication training seminar for people working in a similar capcity.

The person that went on after me wass talking about possible issues that could prevent effective communication, when someone brought up female islamic head dresses. This lead the speaker into maybe 10 minutes of racist jokes, such as wondering if such head dresses are helpful in arranged marriges as you can't see what your marrying ect.

Although I can't name the speaker in question, he is exteremly highly placed in social services and has considerable influence over policies effecting ethnic groups, the disabled and young offenders.

Perhaps what was more disturbing is that more than half of the audience (supposedly educated professional people trained to work with vulnerable elements in society) where laughing right along with him.

That's not racism. That's (for want of a better word) "culturalism". And you know what? I don't really have a problem with that. I think ALL cultures are fair game, and I'm no believer in cultural relativism. All cultures are most assuredly NOT equally "good".

theres a large difference between laughing at something, and believeing it to be true. and on a side note , you should be glad you live somewhere where people CAN do that, and the big men in the long coats dont come for them in the night ;)
