its funny you know, how it takes a woman to be actually affected by an illness before others take notice and say oh she raised loads of money for charity. and dont get me wrong she did this in the most heroic way possible.
yet, she was known to everyone and raised around 2m quid.
why should it be up to women like her to raise money for research? or even awareness for other diseases?
why arent the peeps with the real money putting their damn hands in their pockets instead of saying.. oh she was great at what she done..
the peeps sitting on piles of cash and bragging about it like robbie fucking williams (im rich beyond my wildest dreams!!!) should really do more
it should not take the death of a woman who proved that being diagnosed with cancer doesnt mean you have to roll over and die, you can still live your life to the best you can. she did.. she proved to peeps she was still capable of stuff others would find scary.
she should be made a dame tbh because of her work in not only raising money, but in proving to peeps what can be done even if you are ill.
we should not have to live in a society where its left to peeps like her to raise a profile of a disease to a level where peeps give a little cash. we should ALL be aware of diseases and should ALL be actively contributing to prevent them.
i bet every single person reading this has had a family member or friend affected by cancer, i sure have... and all the research seems to be hindered by "ethical" reasons. well excuse me but what is ethical? when it comes to family and friends.. who gives a toss about rabbits or cows.
we need the research NOW, regardless of peeps beliefs, so we know how to deal with diseases.
without this research.. janes fundraising will have been in vain really.. and those doubters dont really get a say.

Firstly, not ashamed to admit reading that did choke me up a bit. So heroic and sad.
Ilaya, know what you mean. Big business/rich bastards should do more. But everyone could do more. When I was growing up we were always doing sponsored walks, swims, runs you name it. Even did a parachute jump for the heart foundation. Never see any of that now. All the charaties want to do these days is sell Christmas tat and T-shirts and then moan they don't get enough money. New campaigns seem to be based around some pretty website and email campaign. All the ground roots stuff seems to have disappeared.
About the only organised charity events you hear about now are Red Nose day. Or sadly when its far too late and thousands are caught on TV camera dying.

Well fuck it, I don't give money to charitys, I used to (age concern, NSPCC) but now I am looking after number 1 untill I have enough money to live in a way i find acceptable (when im on 60k/year with assets over 200k (excluding house) i'll look at giving and doing things for charitys.
Sorry if this makes me seem a selfish bastard, but at the end of the day I am looking after the person/people I care most about me and my family.

No offence meant but that is the main problem. Everyone is looking out for themselves. No sense of community anymore. Pretty much everyone is guilty of it, including me. You look after your family first.

Well...
People are selfish. It's in our nature.
We take care of our tribe/cave(nowadays family/friends) first, then others(maybe) or kill them. It's that simple. Otherwise we'd be long gone as a race when others get the food/shelter our family needs.
I don't do sh*t for strangers that costs me to lose something, no stranger has ever done anything for me, even for free. I do help if i notice someone who needs help, since time and helping is basically free. Sometimes i just don't feel like it though and got my own problems to deal with.
I've opened doors to people etc, NEVER has anyone kept a door open for me, or done anything like that. Just goes to show how the world works.
About being rich and not handing out the dough, well, it's not their f*cking obligation now is it? Just because they made it,(and the jealous people didn't) doesn't make them the next Mother Teresa candidate.
This chick? Honestly? Just another fund raiser who by some form, most likely a "right spot at the right time and media got hold", made more money. Nothing special. Sure, nice person, sure, did non selfish things...but only after she got cancer herself. If she hadn't gotten it, or noone of her family had gotten it, you think she'd spend her time running about gathering cash for cancer?

Ilaya, that is how the world works.
Bono is one of the worst, he begs for people to give to Africa, then signs a massive money deal with Pepsi to advertise its products. The normal people, who work for 5-6 days a week on low wages, are always the ones that seem to pay out. Its a joke.
