So, Saturday early afternoon I got a call that my grandpa was in the hospital, and that it wasn't good. Drove over there as fast as I could, and was there at about 15:00h, stayed there the entire afternoon/evening, and he passed away at about half past six.
Today was his funeral. Very nice ceremony, gutted now and exhausted...

He was 83, so a respectable age, especially since he had Crohn's disease, diagnosed in his 20s, and the last 3 years his health diminished considerably, but that doesn't make it easier really...

Sucks big time.

My condolences also.

My cousin died last saturday morning also. It was sudden, no previous problems so a big shock for the family. So i understand exactly what you are going through right now. Its very hard but I know it will become easier as time passes.

Hey mate, sorry to hear that. It sucks, having a relative or loved one die. My condolences with your loss as well. Seems to be a bad time of the year. Heard of two other passings already within my group of acquaintances, and yeah, this is typically one of those things which really only can be eased by time....

I'm sorry for your loss. At least you were able to get there to see him.

I was travelling the 400 miles to Scotland to pick my daughter up from my parents. My grandad had been ill in hospital for almost 3 weeks and I was going to make a point of visiting him before catching the ferry.
My ETA to Oban was 9.30am.
At 7.05am (while on the road) I got the call that he'd died a few minutes earlier.
I'm gutted that I didn't get a chance to say goodbye in person.

The most upsetting aspect of his funeral was carrying his coffin to the hearse while the Dambusters theme was playing (he was in the RAF during WW2).

Aw I'm sorry for you, all of you who have recounted lost loved ones tbh, and while getting to say good bye is important as long as the person knows you love them that's the main thing.

83 is a good age, speaking personally though I'm not sure I'll feel that way when/if I get there...shall probably be saying "but I'm too young!!"

lots of hugs to you guys, it does get easier and though we always miss our loved ones we always have the memories

Thanks for your support everyone. Everything is going a lot better now, haven't had a bad day since Friday. The funeral was a good closing it seems. Although ofcourse I still miss my granddad and I've got no doubt that the next birthday etc will be difficult, I've come to terms with it all. :)

Zenith, sorry to hear about that man, must have been very frustrating. My nephew had a similar situation. Due to the nurses saying that it could take 5 minutes or 2 days for my granddad to pass, he left the hospital early in the evening. He was quite saddened to hear that he left half an hour early..

Again, thanks for your support all, it is very much appreciated :)
