QMix

Those of you with satellite or Digital TV, who watch the Q Music channel, will be aware that this is QMix week, where Q are showing mixes of disparate songs & styles:

Kylie vs Soulswax
Christina Aguilera vs The Strokes
Craig David vs Survivor
Destiny's Child vs Nirvana

And so on.

Some of these are pretty fucking excellent (The Nirvana & Strokes mixes especially).

Question: Does anyone know if these are downloadable from anywhere, as they're not commercially available, and there's fuck all about them on the Q website?

I'll be timing you.....off you go.

:)

TIA.

Well, im glad i can add something to this.

Basically, the term 'Bootlegs' is indeed given to this, and there is a whole underground scene of it, the cd Tremor was talking about, is a 3 disk MP3 CD called 'Never Mind the Bootlegs' with around 300 tracks on it, all the same kind of thing. For instance, the Jacknifelee mix of the eminem song, is exactly the kind of thing. More taking acappella versions of songs, and laying that over the instrumental of another, its a fine art.

Although there is also another side to this kind of thing, if anyone has heard of 'Cassettboy' then they will know what im talking about. Have a look for 'The Parker Tapes' which is the album of his. Its kind of the same as the music ones, only its done with vocal things, like taking snippets of news readings and stuff, combining them with quick audio samples and just generally twisting it all around. Its hard to describe, but some are extremely funny, such as one using Jamie Oliver, and one with the Two Fat Ladies, worth having a look for.

For extra reading Boom Selection is about this general kind of thing, and if anyone is ever near a rough trade, pop in, and they'll shed some light on it all.

Cheers, i hope this has helped everyone.

You're listening to BBC World Service Radio with me, Summo Fitzgibbon. Sincere gratitude to our Alternative Music Correspondent, K.T. Sky, for keeping us up-to-date with the ever-shifting sands of popular youth culture. And now the shipping forecast...
