Come on, we'd all like to see 2 'almost always full' BW public osp ctf servers again wouldn't we?? You know it makes sense!

I'd play nearly every day, but the damn servers are always empty. Plus, not all the maps are available, only a subset which is plain daft:-

anyone think this is ok? I have no idea why I'm paying for this. Unless things change I'll be letting my subscription lapse.

Anyway, now I've had a moan, here's something constructive. I asked about this weeks (months) ago, but nothing. Please make all the CTF maps available. Then you'll get clans using it for a kick around, we certainly have tried a couple of times but then have left because we can't choose the maps we want to try. We end up playing on a server I have running on my 1mb cable modem connection, which is a bit sucky once you have more than 4-5 net players on it.

Still better than BW servers though.

How about this for an idea that got kicked around at our (c)LAN meet about a month ago? Make the servers public so that anyone can join. Get them full again. When a subscriber tries to join the server and it is full, then kick one of the non-subscribers with a message as to why.

Then you have an incentive to get players to sub to BW.

First though, make the servers appealing by the simple acts of allowing all maps, and making them 14 player servers like the Quake Zero servers in Germany, which are currently the best euro servers. Loads of action, great fun.

Stuff the "but the BW servers are 5-a-side because that's what the league rules are", in case no-one noticed, the BW servers are empty, I'd like to see them full again.

The only reason I'm even here today is because according to Bitkocher, the Quake Zero CTF machine failed on Thursday night and the only decent server left is the XS4ALL server (which doesn't allow votekick ffs!).

Lets see some changes for the better eh?

Some good points Chink. I will certainly pass on your comments about the maps to natrat and try to get this sorted.
Am a bit rushed now, but others of your ideas sound interesting .. i'll pop back here later and reply more fully. Maybe we can get the publics full again eh

Having looked at the server configs/maps further, I agree, this must be changed. I'll will be asking natrat about this asap. I think 6v6 is a nice amount of clients .... but 7v7 may be possible.

The idea of making a game.net members ip force non game members off the public server, can't be done, although these ideas are always welcome.

Are there specific maps you would like to see, other than the standard ctf, wctf, 3w, osp ones on the publics?

Both servers have now been updated. You can now vote on all ctf, 3wcp, 3w, osp and ctctf maps.
In addition, both now have 12 public slots + 2 private.

Thank you. You are "the man".

But of course (and there's always one of them!) I would like some extra maps on there. A threewave map pack is missing (q3wpak4.pk3) and there's a couple of great fun maps in there, q3wcp17 and 23. These are in the threewave 1.6 update:-

and somehow, the XS maps are missing, q3wxs1 (insta CTF map - fantastic), q3wxs2 (grenades and shotgun CTF - mayhem) and q3wxs3 (ok you can leave this one, it's naff - BFGs in space).

In the meantime I'll tell the rest of the clan we have a couple of private CTF servers to use instead of Chinkworld on the end of my cable modem. ;-)

If anyone is interested, there's usually between 4 and 7 of us in the clan have a kick around on Mondays and Wednesdays at 9.00ish, come into #sps around then, or we'll see you on one of the BW servers.

Ahhh yes, I was wondering about the XS maps myself last night ...... they can be a lot of fun. I beleive there is a serverside mod (although it may come with the 3w map pack, I shall have to find out) that lets you switch to rail-only instagib for those maps where only the railgun will do I will look at this asap, including those other 3w maps.
Chink - myself and a few others are always keen to play more CTF. I hoped we might be able to get enough to arrange at least one night a week where we can meet up for a game or two. I'll definately pop into #sps and maybe between us we might have enough for a nice 5v5 or 6v6 some time soon

Us SPS-ers are looking forward to meeting anyone who happens to turn up on Mondays / Wednesdays at 9.00. I also think some WOSF-ers are coming too, and Marv and newbie usually turn up too, so don't be late or you won't get a slot.

Who knows, if enough interest rises, I may start idling on there again like the good old days...
