What dissolution forgets is.......

that its a demo you plonker!

Id are keeping their ideasetc, close to them until the final release.

Why is that newmap called "The Arena Gateway" after all? there are plenty of maps and changes in the game that will wait until final release.

Ppl like this dude piss me off.

I reckon the current test it pretty damn good, I also believe the map Test2 (now something 17) is one of the greatest deathmatch levels ever to appear in a game.

Sure you may not like any of them but this is not the final game and ID would be foolish to give away all the games secrets before going gold.
I thought the new level in the demo test was OK - it was nothing special but so what!, it was a change of scene and its hardly a crap map.
The only thing I dont like about this new test is the way everyones ping seems to have increased by about 70.
Its now hard to find a server under 100 ping, for the user of a 56k modem the game has become almost unplayable (I tested this out over at my friends)and for ISDN users like myself the ping has no increased from 45-50 to round about 120

Your right, I might need ISDN to play this game (my 56k conn is pants under Q3), and many others might if they want to preserve any semblance of a DM rep that they have.

I seem to remember reading (no can't remember where .. probably an interview with Id somewhere) that the maps in Q3a will be graduated to help teach people while they play.

The first map will be basically flat and simple to navigate with few weapons, and gradually as you progress through the game the maps will get more complicated and introduce the elements of gameplay that we have all already mastered (i.e. they are catering for a *different* audience here!) like jumping, looking up and down, larger maps etc etc

May sound simple, but try playing a newbie and see how much trouble they have navigating and fighting in this environment .. it's a tough ol' world out there
smile.gif

I think they've done a spanking job with DM1 .. just enough weapons to make it interesting yet few enough that new players won't be completely lost .. only two main rooms, and yet a small corridor "network" .. you can't really get lost but you still get to play in some tight spaces .. ffs .. it's designed to get newbies into the game and it's still a fun map to duel on or ffa for 3 (maybe 4 at a squeeze) people.

DM17 is my favourite DM map of all time .. it really is just so much fun (and works well as a teamplay map believe it or not).

(but imagine the grief newbies would have on it .. one long stint of raildeath .. hence the fact that it's no 17)

The q3dm1 map will be for complete newbies. Think about it. You have nevered played a FPS game before and want to start off. This map is idea. Tight corners and only 3 (well 4 including the machine gun) makes this map idea for the first player to learn the basic skills.

And I agree q3dm17 has to be one of the best ever DM maps seen in a game

How do you get DM17 to be a teamplay map ? i'd really like to give that a try, but when i set the server to Team game it only gives me DM7 to play on.

cheers

Its funny, cuz I think Dm17 is the worst map in existance.

Its a dull bouncy map that is nothing short of a silly gimmick and the whole emphaysis on winning on that map is to whore the red armour and the quad.

If the RL was like Q1's it might be worth playing but the shitty, weak splash of the rocket makes this map a frightful bore.

The people that seem to like it are the lpb's who just like trying to get mid air rail shots.

I ve just been reading the slashdot thing regarding ID's "Feature" about reporting Information about your computer.

Now before we all get into a panic ( and get rid of all our "gold" software ) aparently it is only stuff like Procesor speed/memmory and General Hardware stuff.

Wether u belive this or not is down to you.

Aparently there was something in the Docs... but for it to be missed by soooo many people... makes you wonder doesnt it.

Im not sure i can construct a "proper" reply or make of this what you will... but i cant help but feel a little betrayed.

if they wanted to know my hardware config THAT badly... id rather they ask me to go fill out a questionaire ( which i would have done) rather than them get it without my knowlege and indeed my knowing consent.

It begs the further question...

How much is this "feature" actually sending?
How often? each time you log onto the net and play?

How much bandwith is this little data taking?

Do they do it per packet? Or send it in one go?

Does anyone know a way of stopping this data being sent?

ICQ has an Auto update "Feature" that can also list software off the registary ( auto update they call it)

So the only way i have come to get round this is thus

Im my registery my Main G/c is "F8ck Off"

and my 2 V`s are "you nosey bastards"

took a long while and OPEN GL no longer works on the TNT.. nor does Mini GL. (?? fk) but hehe who knows.

Just a thought to get everyones attention

Below should be a link to a picture taken from a packet snooper that shows exactly what information is being sent.

http://x86.strikenet.at/q3/pic/q3.gif

"We added the result of glGetString( GL_RENDER ) to get some much needed information about the distribution of video cards and drivers" - John Carmack. It was documented in versions upto 1.08 but left out (accidently) in 1.09.
www.linuxquake.com was the site that first covered the story and has most of the useful info on its site.

Mountain/Molehill imo.
