Punk hit mainstream in the late 1970's in the United Kingdom, Aus and USA.

Its my favourite music genre, my Dad has always liked Punk so I was bought up on it.

Punk rock bands, eschewing the perceived excesses of mainstream 1970s rock, created short, fast, hard music, with stripped-down instrumentation and often political or nihilistic lyrics. (taken from wiki)

Bands like Greenday are classed as Punk these days which has basically killed punk.

What do you guys/girls think of it? Just want to get some opinions.

Anyhoo, punk is cool, at times, though not gonna say anything about it too much 'cause out come the; "That's not punk, that's this and that and this and that is new stuff and old stuff is better wah wah wah." wankers.

Even if probably some "punk" guy is gonna come and say "Meeeeeh! I'm like a nerd f*cking gandalf defending the REAL music."

Also have to remember, i think there's a big difference in brit-punk and punk from the US.

I have to admit, i'm more of a fan of west coast pop punk.

Not a huge punk fan myself, consider myself more a metalhead.

For me punks very much hit and miss, I get a lot of "WTF" when I say I don't mind a bit of punk but I find bands like Rancid horrid to listen to, I dislike bareness and thrashy stuff.

That being said i'll dance to it provided im pissed enough.

Pretty much the only time I'm willingly going to listen to Punk music myself. Never really got into it really.. Though, I did have some stuff on here which played like once or twice a week

Personally i was never a fan of the Sex Pistols, the Ramones however are my favourite band of all time and i was glad i got to see them before they split up.
I'm weird though, i equally like the Green Days of this world and the Subhumans and Crass end of the spectrum and all in between.

Yeah i'm big into punk, although at the moment more into the 'Thrashy' stuff. Big Suicidal Tendencies fan, as well as bands like the Circle Jerks, DOA, GBH, The Exploited, Madball. Still think one of the contenders for best punk band has to be Dead Kennedys. I don't mind some pop punk too, bands like Reel Big Fish, Goldfinger, Sprung Monkey.

Oh and i got me a ticket to go see Gorilla Biscuits too in October

Yes Danzig left the band. But its better than not carrying on with the band? I admit at the moment the Misfits are quite aweful, Jerry only can't sing at all.

But Graves was a good singer, so was Danzig. I like them both.

danzig has to be one of my favourite singers of all time, love his distinct voice and as much as i agree Misfits arent the same without him i think Graves has a great voice too, gives a great wail

as far as i'm concerned, crass were the most important british punk band to ever exist. penny rimbaud is also a very interesting and clever chap.

The bands I mentioned are the ones that are known by all. If you go and ask some 50yr old "who are the sex pistols" they will know, but if you ask them who minor threat are they won't have a clue. Minor threat are hardcore punk, I specifically stated "punk". Punk isn't definable but hardcore punk is noticably different.
