Pretty sure no one ever thought they had discovered every disease going.

Read the story of what happened with the first Legionaires outbreak in 1976 (iirc). The reason it took the US authorities so long to work out that it was a new disease was because they believed they knew all the various disease causing microorganisms.

Dark matter has always been believed by scientists, since its a scientific concept, what it consists of they dont know, but its existance has been accepted as fact for over 50 years.

Ok fair enough, should have been more along the lines of until recently it's been more thought of as theoretically possible than an actual reality - it's only recently they've worked out how to "see" it.

why exactly cant they be staged?

Yeah, everything can be staged when videocameras or any form of recording is used.

I could make a video of myself making a bunny disappear and have a "panel of honest judges" on it to prove it, but still it could be said that it's staged.

Kinda makes "proving" things with cameras pointless.

The ONLY way to prove something to a person is to shove it right in their face.

Thats exactly how I thought it would be, but it wasnt. Everything she said was specific

I do wonder about how much your GF might have let on in the past, as she does know this woman well and has been visiting for a while.

As I said before. My GF swore on her childrens lives she had told her nothing about me. Of course she could be lying, but knowing my gf as well as I do I trust her 100% and she would never swear on her childrens lives. Plus, I have told no one about what I used to say in my prayers to my nan 13 years ago.

NikonL made a good point about "filling in the blanks" which is why, I am still a little sceptical about it all.

well, the report...

i have to say that my opinion that its all bollocks seems to have been reinforced by last night, though i'm not going to say it wasn't just the 'psychic' as my missus who is a believer said the guy was shite also.

let me set the scene; the place where this was all happening was a conservative club, the average age of the people there was easily between 60 and 70. when he was receiving a 'message' there were two main types, he would say for example; its a husband thats passed over, now its fair to say that in a room full of 60+ women a lot of their husbands will have died so its an easy way to get started. the other one he used a lot was; 'i'm getting either your mother or your grandmother' well, if you're 60+ you'd be very lucky to have both your mother and grandmother to be alive so again this is an easy start off point.

When he did get started i noticed quite a few times that he was obviously very observant, for example, one woman (who is a friend of my missus' parents) had been smoking all night and had a bit of a cough every now and then, when he was doing her reading she actually had an un-lit cigarette in the ashtray in front of her.

One of his first questions to her was 'do you smoke?' followed quickly by 'and you have a bit of a smokers cough', obviously both of these got answered with a 'yes'. His next question was 'and this keeps you up at night?' well thats kind of to be expected if you have a smokers cough, however she said 'no' at which point he continued to pester her getting less and less specific about this smokers cough until eventually she kind of agreed with him and he moved on.

After her reading, the woman who had had the reading said 'Well he said some stuff but he didnt really tell anything' it was all very generic material that could be applied in some way to practically everyone in the room.

this kind of pattern was repeated through out the night.

Heh, and that's the problem with psychics, I'm sure there's a ratio of 1/10 that are actually true psychics, so there's no reason to be naive, concerning these things :)
