Got on to the subject of Psychics with our lass last night. I was totally scheptical about these people. I was of the belief that they just pick up on certain things and by circumstance end up being able to guess things, ie "that ring on your finger was given to you by your nan" etc etc. Anyway, I was taking the mickey because my gf believed in it. "well I know a very good one" she says "ive known her years and people come from all over the country to see her. She wont see new people as she has too many "clients" already, but because I know her, I could get her to see you". Ive gotta do this I thought. So she phoned her and the pyschic said I could go see her straight away. Even better I thought as if psychics do some research first, she wouldnt have time.

We turned up at her house, her name was "weed". So i payed my £15 and went into the kitchen. "this is gonna be so funny I thought". She sits me down and holds my hand. The first thing she said to me was "your nan understands the reasons why you didnt go and see her and tells you not to worry because she was proud of you". Now, 2 weeks before my GCSE results my nan was very ill and was dying. I couldnt bare to go and see her dying so I stayed at home instead of going to St Helens. When she died I used to speak to her everynight apologising for not seeing her when she was dying. When my GCSE results came through I was upset my nan wasnt alive to see my grades, my nan knew how much I wanted the grades to get into college and I used to say to her all the time I wanted her to be proud of me. I was like "HOLY SHIT!". Now, is this really psychic or just very good guess work???

Next she tells me, my father apologises for being such a shit dad. Holy shit, how did she know my father was dead or that he was such a prick to me???? My girlfriend swears on her childrens lives she told Weed nothing about me. Its shaken me up a bit if truth be told because I was such a non believer. She also told me various other bits but these were just things about my life im planning to do, like "you will move house withing 2 years", (me and our lass have been house hunting", that I will get promotion at work and that I should be careful of my knee when playing sports (this spooked me a bit as I had major knee surgery 8 years ago on a rugby injury)

Are people really psychic or is it just good guesswork?

Thats exactly how I thought it would be, but it wasnt. Everything she said was specific

There are few who can do it and i don't diss it.

Some say it's some "see what others react and then look like your telling the future bull", i just say "It's real, deal with it".

Though if your girlfriend comes in today with a canarie named timmy, i'm setting up shop

I believe they can do that stuff, unable to explain the stuff I've seen a psychic do anyway else.

And as I personally know one, I strongly doubt that he's a hustler, can't see him hustling everybody he knows, his family and all his clients.

Also, why do you think she closed up for new clients? So its easier to keep track of what happens in their lives :> Don't take that kind of bullshit for granted.

And keep in mind, she never told you that your parents were dead either...

Between all the general stuff she told you she accidently hit some stuff that had a deeper meaning for you.

Psychics are not psychic, they are just very clever at giving you some answers you believe in.. Quite old trick actually :>

I think there are a couple of people who really can do this sort of thing for real, but I also believe that the majority are fakes who are using false hope to make a living, like those shits on TV.

Cold reading is scarily effective when you go to someone who wants to believe what you're saying, but in marc's case he's saying everything was specific and very little of it was "i'm thinking of a name..." etc.

My mum is into that sort of thing alot. I'm in the scepitcal group myself, but it seems to make my mum's loss a bit easier to deal with so I dont say too much.

Apparently the person my mum goes to see says I have alot of "potential" in this area, even though I've never been myself, and have never been interested in it. I dont know what to think but I am very careful about believing people when they talk about things like this.

At the end of the day I guess its all down to the individual, and what you want to believe.

Well i don't think its possible to read other peoples minds. Whats far more possible is that she just good at cold reading...

if she started of like 'your nan wants to tell you something' then on your response said something else, she could be cold reading.... also many people fit what the psychic said around there life, to make it sense to them, im also doubtful that they are exact quotes

im pritty sure that their are genuine ones, but only like 1/1000 so the probbability you came across a rl working one is rather slim

I am very sceptical about theese things, as people have said , she might be very good reading you.

When it comes to reading a human mind, thats possible because your toughts are electrical pulses within your brain, and every electrical pulse creates a electromagnetic wave (a very weak one tho). That electromagnetic wave carries information (in other words your toughts). but since we dosnt understand our brain fully i doubt we have any top secret machine able to read peoples minds. The only thing I know is that whenever we think something, that tought is broadcasted with electromagnetic waves so it is teoretical possible to read it. Maybe some people have a genetic mutation so that they can recieve and decrypt other peoples toughts, i hardly doubt it but thats the only wild theory i can come up with, explaining mind reading.

In the future i think we might understand and mapdraw our brain in details, and then build a "radio" able to read our toughts.

nah was no cold reading. She didnt prompt me to say anything. Everything she said rang true which is why it only lasted 5 minutes. There was no guessing etc. Im still a little sceptical but ive also heard stories from other people who have been to see her and they say the same thing

The two examples that you used in your original post also rang true in my life and I expect a lot of other people that had the same thing said to them would also be able to adapt it to there own experiances in one way or another.

Not saying its fake or not I simply dont know but I am quite sceptical.

Its a bit like lyrics to a poem or a song written to mean one thing but each person that reads/hears the words interprates it differently possably connecting with it through experiances in there own life.

Also I used to know someone who was a pyromancer, that is he could make a candle catch alight with just the power of his thoughts (for want of a better term). It would take him about an hour to get it to happen though, but once he had, he could manipulate it and then make it go out again. There are people with "amazing" abilities out there, but like I always say: the supernatural is simply the natural which hasn't been explained yet.

Darren Brown says very general things, which someone is likely to connect to, and he reads their body language and makes educated guesses from that. The people who I know don't act anything like that, they just say specific things right off, and they don't say loads, trying to work out the answer, they would say straight away what they know.

she could be determining it from your looks - if you're good at judging peoples physical looks and facial expressions you can tell if they've had a rough childhood and who in their life they really adore (like your nanny and your father). looking at your age and knowing bits about your girl could help her as well (like that you're studying, its time for GCSE etc)
