If im going to run the following:

Asus A8N-SLI Premium
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+
XFX GeForce 7800GT

What sort of PSU will i need?

yeah, you'll be fine. I run a a8n-sli deluxe with two 7800GT's and an oc'd 3200+ on less wattage and have never had an issue.

The new seasonics are great, I've got a 600W one, but you could easily get away with a 500W one.

So I'd recommend this:

Twice the price, but it's very well regarded, 100W more, more energy efficient and almost silent.

I'm sure I read somewhere that 7800's use less power than the 6800's.

I may be dreaming though, does anyone know?

TdC I thought that running dual GPUs would need more power, I'm surprised, and happy that you can run 2 7800GTs with less than 400W. I guess adding a twin core CPU to the mix would put it over the top.

it's a 360W enermax iirc RB mate. it drives thus:

• amd64 3200+ @ 2500MHz / 1.5V iirc
• 2x xfx 7800GT @ stock
• asus A8N deluxe
• 2x 512MB dimms @ just a tad over 400Mhz at the highest voltage the mobo will do. 3V?
• SATAII disk
• DVD burner
• that logitec laser mouse thing
• cooler fan, case fan

this weekend I'm getting another SATAII disk to combat game loading times, specifically BF2 though I've not played that for a month. and in a month or so I'm getting another two 512MB dimms. I *think* that will be pushing it to the limits regarding the psu, but tbh I'm a total klutz electrically speaking so I couldn't even begin to guesstimate the power I'm using.

heh, now that I'm home, it turns out the psu is a 430W model. sorry, pretty mice and pretty me

still, Laz's tool webpage is smashing and estimates that I'm currently using 421 watts. my planned upgrades take me to 451W so I guess that there will be a new psu coming around too. all estimated at 100% load ofc.

Panda on the other hand, tallys at 321W keeping him well within the 400W possible limit he's set for himself. An upgrade to sli will push him over that at 100% load, so he'd best be getting a tougher psu.

once again sorry for my mistake, my previous psu was the friggin 360W one. heh.
