Okies, well after being scared to check my account after some extravagant nights out etc, it appears that I am not in debt and am actually quite flush.

So I am looking at getting either a 4850 or 4870.

I know there are a few threads about these, but I have some specific questions:

I am upgrading from a 1950xtx, I can run the games I play at 1920*1200, no high AA or AF under hl2 games, but high settings otherwise. I need to play new games at the same res, ideally with as much prettyness on as poss. Will I get away with the 4850, or am I better off with the 4870?

I have a 450w Antex PSU, it runs a dvd drive, two harddrives and the mobo. Will this be suffiecient for these cards?

hmm may be cutting it fine there Chets.

Helme was good enough to recently post an article by SweClockers about watts and fps and stuffs. If you check out page 5 towards the bottom you'll see power consumption by a bunch of cards. Ok, it's in beardy-axelover speak, but watts are watts all over the world.

I recently purchased a load measure thingy, and my pc has maxed out at 320W, where I run everything off that socket, even my desk light and speakers and stuffs. Idle it's around 250W. (Q6600 oc'd to 3GHz, 4GB, 4x750GB F1's , 8800GTS/512Mb/G92, Dell 24", etc)

I've tested a 4870 on an Akasa 460w with the usual setup with no issues. 450 *should* be fine. Best thing you can do, if you can afford the double postage is order the card, suck it and see.
I'd go for the 4870 to both futureproof yourself and to keep your high resolution sweet, I doubt you'd regret it :)

I'm running my 4850 on a 450W Corsair without any problems, single cards should be fine tbh.
