Hello, downloaded a couple of .mkv video files and ps3 media server does not seem to be playing them. They appear on the list of of files on my ps3, but when I play them I get a blank screen and the video length shows as 0 if I press select to bring up the display.

This has only happened with new files I have downloaded, old files are working fine.

A new codec needed?

Got the latest version of ps3 media server, not sure if I have the k-lite pack.

What is confusing me is that its just new files I downloading, has there been some change that stops ps3 media server playing certain files?

Perhaps a silly suggestion, but have you tried TVersity to see if that works? Would help rule out the software at least.

I had to use mkv2vob to play the file. I think it's a problem with how the files have been produced rather than ps3 media centre itself, as it's only happened twice.

Can't be arsed to install tversity.

Tversity has bad AIDS

Whenever I download a HD file to play on the PS3 I always mkv2vob it, whether it is meant to play straight away or not I can't be arsed fucking about when its time to watch a film.

I gave up streaming and now have my PC permanently connected to my 40" 1080p. It's just s much nicer, no faffing about with slow networks and stuttery transcoders (never really got it working for good 720p or any 1080p stuff).

Nah, I have it wired, learned long ago that HD over wireless is a no go.

I don't think that's true these days; my PC happily streams HD from the study to the living room. I've got a netgear wireless-n Rangemax router and USB adaptors and its fine. Admittedly it struggles when I try to stream to the upstairs PC, but that's because I think there's something metallic in the floorboards that's causing a problem.
